So good, assuming you don’t get a flawed bottle this should last a decade or two but after a quick decant this is impeccable and in a style that is so hard to find. You can shop for reduction but this has some of the amazing extra elements that are hard to define. I like the new wines post 2017 for different reasons but the old BBV wines I could drink every night.

Tastes exactly like Pillot and Corton Charlemagne in the best possible way. I’m sure it’s going to age really well but like a lot of Pillot, they also taste delicious fresh with a quick decant.

I didn't find this oxidative but it was very creamy and almost new world, kind of a turn off. I bought 6 bottles and this is the first I drank and I was not a big fan, it was well made but not my style, I'll try another in the future to make sure it was not a weird bottle because it didn't resemble what I see in CT or from professional critics but I bought 6 on auction and there were a bunch of 6 bottle lots, maybe this is why....

It really needs air (1-2 hours) to blossom and thrives with food but it has loads of acidity and drive and it’s completely delicious.

Good. Doesn’t really taste like Perrieres at this point but it could just be young, hopefully, cool story with the connection to Bouchard but I wouldn’t buy again unless I open another in a few years and it’s more typical of meursault and the vineyard site.

This will certainly fatten out over time but it’s insanely delicious right now with pleasant nervous tension and acidity and fruit to spare without fat. Pillot is pretty hard to beat right now.

Good but glacial how it’s aging. Far more right and high acid than nearly every other 2017 white burgundy I’ve tried. I probably wouldn’t touch another for 5 years

A notch lower in pleasure than the last bottle but still excellent, just less assertive; I don't see this getting any better as the fruit falls off and the leafy notes get more pronounced but it is really delicious at this moment. It's not green in a bad way but tastes really old school, tastes and smells exactly like it should....

second bottle, very good but not quite as good as the last if I'm being picky but it was better with an hour or two of air in particular on the palate so maybe this one just had more life in it. I would buy it again....so much different than the modern day Gibourg in a good way, I like the new wines too but this is old school but very very well made and is not showing any decline

When they are on the wines are really incredible, this bottle was flinty and completely alive and delicious, everything you could want but the success rate is pretty much 50% on these wines for me so as long as you are comfortable with that reality they are worth seeking out, I'm not sure I'm going to be buying anymore myself. Even at 2x the average retail price on these which is basically what the cost is when you have to pour out every other bottle, they are still a relative bargain compared to any other older White Burg but it's a frustrating experience opening them.

Shut down day 1, day two very pretty stone fruit driven but less serious than expected, it could just be too young, one bottle showed up and appeared that it could have leaked so I popped earlier than I would normally would. A reviewer commented on another 2020 from the same producer that the wine was serene but maybe too serene which I read after drinking this and I thought it was applicable but I did like the light touch.

Stored in one cellar since release, not to be too repetitive but this is just prototypical elegant La Tache, not too green but a little leafy in a positive cool vintage way, massive room filling aromatics, etc. So many superlatives….easy to drink now and it’s not declining but it may be less balanced some day.

10/3/2022 - Honey Badger wrote: flawed

These wines are wonderful when they are not prematurely oxidative but they so often are, I bat around .500 with Niellon and when they are on, they are really on and classic or they are so badly premoxed you don't even have that moment of "maybe it's ok?", it's just dead. Natural cork and I also recently had a cork slip into the bottle when I used a Coravin on one as the needle was going into the cork which has never happened to me so maybe the corks don't fit well enough in the neck. They are reasonably priced most of the time so if you double the price and it's still worth it since you may have to pour one out for every bottle you drink like I have, than it could be worth your money and cellar space but I will not be buying anything else until the corks change to DIAM and as of 2020 according to reviews they are listed on the WA review as "As ever, bottling is under natural cork." I detect more than a hint of cynicism from WK in that quote

If there’s a drawback to Droin I’d say it’s not ultra Chablis traditional: oyster shell, highly chiseled, etc but on the positive it’s flat out delicious and tastes like killer white burgundy. I’d have guessed very expensive Puligny here right now but who knows what will come out with time, it’s super young and the ABV is very in check, I keep buying Droin because for now the value is there and it will likely blow up with the quality and pedigree. Love 2020v white burg.

I agree with the notes here on opening. It tastes pretty simple and actually more ripe like 2018 and a little flabby but not bad. With a little air for an hour the acidity pops through though and it’s a much more interesting wine, decant it and rough it up a little and it’s a much more interesting white wine. I did not decant it but I’ll drink the rest a little more cool and put it in a decanter for an hour.

Very good, much more open than the 2017, def some of the reduction that made it a Coche ringer has been lessened as discussed lately (just like Coche) but not totally removed, I know some don’t love it but I happen to.... I poured a glass or two from a Coravin one night then opened the rest 5 days later and it was markedly different, more open and the wide range is because of a ripe pineapple note that emerged after it was open 2 hours or so that was really unusual for this producer and my concern of buying ‘18s in general. I know there are good ones, I’ve tried a few but sappy, ripe white burgundy is off putting so maybe it doesn’t go that direction ultimately and holds the purity of fruit it started with. Bought a case so tried one to get a feel. 90-94 for me, may be great some day if it doesn’t get too tropical.

Somewhere between 90-95, lacks some of the accessibility of other 2017s out of the gate, maybe 2017 is shutting down? I’ve tried a number over the last 6 months and the last few have been very stingy, prior most of the wines I’d tried from the cool kid white burg producers have been pretty forthcoming. This also is a little less reductive and “Coche-y” than other vintages I’ve tried, when I tried the 2013 out of a decanter last year I’d have bet a tidy sum it was Coche. Hard to say what this turns into but it it’s really pure, this and Henri Germain are the most tightly wound and probably more destined for greatness and remind me more of 2014 in the structure.
