    I’ve previously scored/reviewed this 2021 at 91, but this note pertains to the 2nd night tasting - bottle kept under cork for 24 hrs though, importantly, when tasting again for second time it included a 1 hour decant too. Updated score 93.

    93 because wine now a softer, rounder better mouthfeel plus the other positive credentials from previous note retained/carried over too.

    N….pretty much as previous note.

    C….no change, obviously.

    T….weirdly better for the 24 hrs sitting in kitchen with a cork in, plus the decant. Just a better glass of the same wine - perfect advertisement for decanting. Details of previous tasting note remain, now just a better experience.

    QPR?…. Costs around £12.00 yet feels like £20.00. Utter bargain - if you decant! Will buy again.

    Bought Majestic UK £27.99 April 2024

    Screw cap. Chilled. No decant.
    13.5% alc.

    N…immediate New World kerosene; some nice wet stone minerals; green apple skin

    C….solid medium body, straw with a hint of green.

    T….ripe fruit but a near-dry style; fruit flavours are focussed, greengages, ripe lime, tart passion fruit; some gentle white tannins, some minerals, there’s enough acid though I can’t say it’s lively, good length, good balance and a touch of elegance too. Very good glass of Clare Valley Riesling. Impressive now at 3 yrs old but clearly had shedloads of potential.

    QPR?…..feels worth every penny of its price, in fact more. Definitely buy more of this 2021. Cellar time would probably move it up to score 94 or 95.

    Wine Soc’ UK, approx £8.50

    N…..some lemon rind, very little else.

    C….light straw, looks L-Medium body

    T……first impression is a fresh interesting wine, lively with good intensity of flavour; ripe nectarines, even a bit of peaches and cream; some near-grippy white tannins; a mineral profile; a Foodie style wine; no length, flavours fade early; a well-made but simple wine.

    QPR?……costs £8.50 and feels worth that. Will buy the 2022 again.

Just less than £20 is a bargain, as it's usually around £26.00 for them, I think - even more most other places. I don't know what it is with good Rioja being at reasonable prices, maybe it's just 'fashion' - as in not fashionable to be drinking good Rioja currently? Who knows. Maybe more people - me included - are moving away from 'big' rich reds? I haven't drunk any big Aussie blends for ages, or their old-school Shiraz, and I pretty much don't drink claret any more. Plenty of Australians are making lighter/modern Shiraz, even calling it Syrah, and that's much more to my taste. In the 1980s-1990s, though, mates and I were happy with 'big' Aussie reds. I can't be ars***d with those styles now. They're not in any way terrible wines, it's just my preferences have moved.

    10/28/2021 8:11:00 AM - You have a good way of posting your notes, thanks: Many of Eric LeVine's outlier data fields such as source, cost, date, etc, all combined in with, and heading up, methodical tasting notes. Very useful. If Eric ever decides to modifyu his user-input database structure, he could take a tip from you and compile those outer fields into the main Tasting Notes field similar to the way you do it. Much appreciated.

    2/19/2017 7:57:00 PM - I have 2 bots of the 2013 Te Kahu, won't touch it for another 4 yrs - the first one anyway. I'm weary of NZ Bordeaux blends but made an exception for the Craggy Range because of their reputation - for this blend anyway - and the 2013 vintage in HB being reported as almost perfect. Also, they were on a discounted price in the UK at the time.

    2/19/2017 3:28:00 PM - Craggy Range is a premium brand, but some of their wines aren't so premium - yet the pricing is. Some of their Pinots are a bit like that too. If you haven't yet, try their Te Kahu blend - brilliant and good VFM.
