Double decant and drank over 2 nights. Full bodied yet with a light opulent texture and a 45 second length. Baked plums, hints of graphite and anise, sweet cassis. Delightful! 96+

Lasted tasted in 2019 with somewhat similar notes. Still dark fruits in the nose and flavor. Blackberries, black currants, black cherries and notes of leather and earthiness. Nicely balanced though missing some of the complexity of previous tastings. Medium bodied and a medium to long finish.

LWTF - Napa Tasting (London): (Brief notes & thoughts from Walkaround Tasting): Intense nose detailing raisin, dried earth and wood smoke. A soft entry initially rises to a gravelly texture, showing plenty of extracts and a generous, slightly spirited alcohol. Full-bodied with good depth to the wine but inelegant with a creamy yet blunt finish showing dried earth and more smoke.

Decanted one hour and drank over the next hour. Typical Napa Cab nose. Black fruits dominate. Medium/full mouth feel. Thanks to Mark1npt for leaving this amazing wine for us to drink. I’ve never had or heard of this Producer but really incredible. This is how Napa should be.

One hour double decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Dr. Pepper, walnut, Turkish fig, blackberry, white rose, and anise. Smooth, dry, plush palate, with pixelated acidity. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

Very elegant. This has aged very gracefully. It’s simultaneously rich and nuanced.

1 hour slo-ox, nose of dark chocolate, black cherry, black currants, smooth tannins; most enjoyable, but felt it was better a few years ago. Didn't get secondary flavors on this bottle. One bottle remaining.

Deer Valley Palooza in 3 stages with Mark1npt and Agelvis; 6/25/2023-7/1/2023 (8,100 ft): I specifically bought this bottle for this occasion and it didn’t disappoint. Floral perfumed nose, black raspberry (is that a real thing?) fruit, a big spicy personality. We only gave it a 1 hr decant but I thought would show better with a few more hours. I have 2 more to age in the cellar for another year or two.

One hour decant. Deep dark purplish magenta color. Blackberry, chocolate, and Chinese five spice. Dry, satiny, chalky palate. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

This was much better than I’m making it sound. It really would benefit from a 3-4 hour decant. Great ending wine to a fun wine weekend in Deer Valley. Decanting Queen supplied this beauty, which was tied for WOTN.

A_M’s wine contribution—he had many other contributions—to our afternoon CS and steak idyll. On the nose and palate, medium potent notes of Bordelaisian funk almost reminiscent of Latour, a mixed palate of black and red berries, currants and a bit of cassis, perhaps losing just a bit of individual definition but beautifully balanced and integrated, leather (but not leathery), anise, meatiness and green olives. Medium red brick, medium+ bodied, full legs. Medium- tannins and acidity, no heat. VG+ complexity and persistence, VG intensity. My first DAE—and specifically requested from A_M for the occasion—and, wow, what a banger, to use my host’s well-turned descriptor. This is that rare Napa Cab that I’d have mistakenly put the chips into the pot betting it was a BDX. It’s sophisticated, elegant and wonderfully supple without feeling soft, a wine in full, and up against a ‘16 Bevan Wildfoote Vixen, which it narrowly bested IMO, it showed the range of not only the CS grape, but Napa winemaking. Whether because of the positive effects of aging or perhaps a kinder, gentler winemaking style that was more in vogue before the turn of the millennium, this wine fit well other high end Napa Cabs from the mid to late 90s I’ve enjoyed in the past 6 months or so: the Pahlmeyers, the ‘97 Cain 5 and Shafer HSS and the ‘96 Insig. I have a mag of the ‘13 of this, and while it’s not in the on deck circle, it certainly won’t have the bottle age on it that this did when I consume it—at that point, I’ll be more likely to be dribbling wine than drinking it—I’ll be curious to see how it compares. A_M had this in a decanter prior to our arrival and said it came out of the bottle a bit unbalanced but it was beautiful from my first sip to last, continuing to deepen just a bit, reminiscent of the ‘06 Verite Desir, over the course of several hours. This was lovely on its own, and, even though the structure is pretty much completely integrated, an absolute rockstar with the steaks, really showing its superiority to the Myriad and the Bevan as an accompaniment. This is inarguably in an outstanding drinking window, and while I’m not taking a definitive position in the discussion between recent tasters whether this a drink now or it will keep for 20 years, I’d ever so slightly put my thumb on the scale for the former. Full body with black fruit and chocolate with mild to no noticeable tannins. I thought this was absolutely YUMMY! 😋
Taste so wonderful that I wouldn’t pair it with food at this point … just want to sit back, sip, and enjoy the ride. Wonderful wine 🍷

Double decanted for 1:15h and consumed from 6:20-9pm at MesaMar.

The nose is perfumed milky and strong, big body, high in acidity and tannins, very dark notes, cocoa and expresso, very long finish… the wine got better towards the end of the night.

Drink or hold but the best days are yet to come…

My wine of the night. While still very young and primary, this has all of the stuffing and balance to evolve into an incredible California Cab. Decanted for 1 hour. Give this one time as it will get better.

This wine is a banger! Wow. Right out of the gates, it's so good. Classic Napa cab styling. It's big, but not too big. It's fruity. It's got some leather, chocolate, green olives...And it sang all night. I'm so excited I've got two more bottles to enjoy during the holidays.

Not at all past its peak. Just right.

3 hour slow ox. Moderate tannins, blue/black fruits. Drank half next day and improved a couple points. The palate is dense without being overpowering. Smooth, fully integrated tannins, and a 30 second finish.
