Evolved and intriguing black fruits with easily enough freshness. Wonderful balance still, while prob 1/2 decade past peak but still drinking very nicely. I really like the faint Cab Franc leathery gaminess here.

Interestingly I didn’t get overwhelming reduction as others describe, perhaps because this is a coravin pour BTG at a wine bar. Maybe being microox-ed by the coravin (who knows how long it has been ) made the reduction go away.
Agree that this is wind up tight, pretty closed on the nose. Some white flowers, hint of guava, mild citrus. Very nice. Acid and mineral. I would definitely buy.

(Disgorged in 2011, 100% Chardonnay)
Lovely yellow colour with endless streams of fine bubbles rising in the glass. Maturing nose showing lime citrus, minerals, hazelnut and a hint of acacia honey as well in a very pleasant way. Smoothing citrus acidity with a pleasant lime zest bitterness on the lengthy finish also showing some lime citrus sweetness.
In a very sweet spot with approx 12 years extra cellaring..

(Decanted for one hour)
Deep red colour with a blueish rim and showing incipient maturity showing a herbal touch at first and opens up with violets, licorice and some vanilla oak in a very subtle and delightful way. Sweet and juicy on the palate still showing some austerity on the tannins with a gentle touch of herbs before the lengthy finish showing a primary fruitful sweetness. Still focused on primary fruit and should reward some further cellaring to show more tertiary notes. Was matching the fillet of lamb very well tonight.

(Bottle from the early 1980s)
Golden yellow colour with a maturing nose showing butterscotch, lime citrus flowers and some biscuits in a mature and delicious way. Smoothing citrus acidity on the palate combined with a creamy note and some yellow plums on the mid to late before the butterscotch notes takes over together with lime zest bitterness on the intense and lengthy finish.
(Still utterly delicious with 40 years extra cellaring)

5/15/2024 - blue6314 wrote: 88 points

Not a bad wine, but I feel like it is a little too old. There is not much fruit, and that which exists is like a soft cherry. The tannins are there, but have mellowed - not a bad thing since Barolo's tannins can be overwhelming at times- but they kind of fade out so that there is not a long finish. Decent acidity remains. If you have a bottle in your cellar, don't wait.

(Bottle from the late 1960s)
Some leakage showing when removing the foil, makes you wonder what will show. But as I slowly remove the cork I get that exciting psscht sound showing that there’s still some pressure left in the bottle. As I take the first sniff with the nose there’s an explosion of flavours hitting my face with black truffle, red currant jam and some fallen leaves in a very delicious way. Nice combination of refreshing lemon citrus acidity and red currant fruitfulness on the mature palate showing a gentle and lengthy finish with butterscotch notes. This was both an interesting and amazing bottle showing all that mature rosé with extended aging can deliver, if left in a dark and chilled cellar for many decades!
Amazingly fresh with 60 years of aging...

I don't think this wine is already fully mature, but at present it is fat, hedonistic and in any respect enjoyable and more than one would expect from a 12 Euro wine. I would appreciate any suggestion of a better QPR for an ideal everyday Bdx. I had several vintages and I am a fan of this chateau.

You get what you pay for. A good introduction into Gran Reserva but lackluster as one. Ruby color with slight hints of age. Vanilla and cherries on the nose. Same on the palate with dill, leather and oak. Not a bad wine but not impressive once you've had most of the other Gran Reservas from other wineries.

On balance one of the best bottles of red I’ve ever had - initially a mind blowing wine
Opened about 90 mins before drinking - the nose was beguiling and initially a little Sonoma coast berries and blood orange but a real creamy purity and depth which very much took it somewhere else.
The palate follows with a lovely fruit driven soft and zero tannin creamy caress
Incredible - the finish almost hit in waves and gave an electric feel about it.
After first glass or so then it did sharpen up and acidity seemed to come through, some of those soft creamy element receded
The nose however held true to the initial impression
Wow

5/5/2024 - WineNerd76 Likes this wine: 89 points

Deep ruby in color; prunes, black cherries, and mushrooms on the nose; medium acidity; medium tannins; tastes like stewed plums, overripe blackberries, and wet gravel with a long finish. Tastes like there was a little Brettanomyces during the fermentation. Not enough to get a barnyard flavor or smell, but enough to make it earthy and mushroom-y. It's good, but not my favorite. A very interesting wine.

After some time in the glass, it has developed aromas of chocolate, prunes, and dried herbs. It tastes like cloves and cherries. The other flavors and aromas are so there, but more in balance now. Adding another point to my score.

First look at the ‘16 BB and it’s in a lovely place. Palest straw. Mellow PYCM nose, not the intense smoky reduction of a few vintages ago, supple witty a little flesh, but really about harmony and elegance. No sign of the ‘sweet and sour’ thing some previous notes reference. Indeed, blind I’d have no idea it was ‘16 as opposed to, say ‘’12 a similar age. Just entering its window with oodles of life left. Impressive BB in an understated and unshowy way. ***

No notes again, only quick impression. One year later and this wine continues to impress. A bit more integration and seamlessness as the structure has softened ever so slightly allowing for more of the expression to come forward. I continue to be a big fan of this producer, and this village expression will only get better from here 89
