2023 Château Grand-Puy-LacostePauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/4/2024 - Jeff Leve wrote: 94 pointsConcentrated, full-bodied, vibrant, juicy, fresh, and rich, the wine displays its black, and red currants, blackberries, cigar box, and flowers with only a bit of coaxing. Vibrant, lifted, and energetic, but not overly bright, everything is in balance, with freshness, sweetness, chewy currants, and a savory, peppery-tinted finish that lingers. This is one of those wines that with aging, is a candidate for a higher score in a decade, or so. The wine is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon with 23% Merlot, 13.2% ABV, 3.6 pH. Picking took place September 11 - September 28. Drink from 2029 - 2060. 93-95 Pts. |

2/24/2019 - VAGenius Likes this wine: 96 pointsServed with braised pheasant. Nose of dark plum jam, smoky oak, and a hint of charcoal. Loads of rich black currant fruit with gravel and graphite providing drive and grip. Tannins are fully loaded but still soft, with black currant and black raspberry, schist, and black leather. A blockbuster wine with a long 10+ year runway ahead of it. |

5/4/2024 - KAT9 Likes this wine: 92 pointsTertiary notes start to come out already. Still a lot of fruits left. Some whiff of green note in the glass. Balanced, classic style. No hint of alcohol or oak. I think 2016 or 2019 GPL blow this one out of the water. There is no point in aging forever when the current vintages are way ahead in quality and sheer enjoyments. |

4/22/2024 - Wine Canuck wrote: 93 points[Tasted Double Blind] This pours medium ruby in the glass with no bricking. The nose shows red currant, hazelnut, a touch of eucalyptus, and rocky soil. The palate enters on very densely packed fruit leaning red, with quite a lot of freshness. Tannin is medium plus and a touch woody, with medium acid. The finish is clipped with some tar and protruding alcohol. All in all the red leaning fruit and absence of the traditional tobacco elements here had me guessing a very deep and structured burgundy with moderate age. In retrospect I really should have gone to Bordeaux with the structure. This is quite a nice bottle even if a tad atypical in my view. |

5/2/2024 - phynes wrote: 93 pointsRevisiting this after seven years. Very smooth but with a freshness that belies its 24 years of age. Lacks a bit of power and complexity to be an outstanding wine but extremely enjoyable. Still 5-10 years of life left in it. |

5/2/2024 - Thoughtful Likes this wine: 93 pointsStored in a cold cellar since release. High fill. Perfect condition. Well balanced with more red fruits than black with some leather and tobacco. Medium bodied. Tannins resolved. Should last but seems close to peak. Drink by 2030. |

5/1/2024 - MikePemulis Likes this wine: 92 pointsSubstantially improved or just a better bottle compared to 6 months and a year ago. Comes into its own and drank well over the course of dinner and for a few hours after that. This was really complete, well integrated and enjoyable. Didn't decant this one which may have helped. |

4/29/2024 - SonnyChiba wrote: 93 pointsHovering around that 93-94 pts range at current age, a really nice wine. Benefited from about 30 minutes in the glass and gained a lot more nuance with air. Great mix of power and finesse. Complimented the course (Ryuzu in Roppongi) very well and was best priced option on their wine list (impressive list). |

4/21/2024 - essenceofreal wrote: NRDecanted 45 mins, put back on the bottle and off to dinner in Santa Monica. Aroma exploded in a good way. Flavor typical lovely Bdx. Lots of tobacco, leather and mostly olive tapanade. Lovely. Great balance in super flavor. However, after an hour it started to fall apart. More tannins crept in and the fruit subsided, became somewhat course. Seemed it was not exactly ideal storage, bought this a year ago. |

4/13/2024 - Rani Likes this wine: 93 pointsTasted semi-blind (I knew the wine but not the vintage). Lovely floral nose, sous bois, dried thyme and red fruit notes. Tasted next to the 1982 and was better, more balanced and fresh. Quite elegant and in a wonderful place now. |

4/13/2024 - Rani Likes this wine: 91 pointsBottle with very good level, cork not perfect but in tact. Nose was a bit brown at first but dissipated quickly (not decanted). Next to its 1990 sibling it was not as fresh and balanced but still very good. Muscular, dark fruit profile, old leather and a bit of pencil lead. Tannins are present but elegant, would have preferred a little more acidity. |

4/13/2024 - A Renaissance Vintner Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery concentrated cassis, blueberry and pencil lead on the nose, with just a touch of (attractive) wood char. There is something about the blueberry aspect that tells you its fairly alcoholic IMO. Opened this over two nights alongside Lagrange (the St Julien version) and Cantenac Brown (Margaux) - and preferred both of the other wines because I find the alcohol on the GPL a bit intrusive. On the other hand it was clearly the most concentrated of the three. I think that in ten years this maybe splitting hairs: it's an excellent wine I'll be happy to drink, but I'd much rather have a classic wine from a ripe year than I would have a wine that is primarily ripe but only just lets you know it comes from a classic region - and I think this sits right on the fence. 14.5% alcohol is just a fraction too much for Cabernet, IMO. I think Merlot (and Pinot) can 'wear' 14.5% a little better than Cab. 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
