4/11/2024 - F1NUT Likes this wine: 92 pointsA great bottle! Good cork. Initially very closed, tannic almost bitter but some black fruit underneath - I was worried. Decanted 4 hours before serving into a closed bottle, served blind. What a change! Sensational plum, mocha, liquorice, cedar, blackcurrant, truffle and wonderful things going on. Good acidity and those tannins while significant seemed softened. An excellent drink in a bracket of three about the same age but the Villeneuve won the popular vote. |

Overall, a superb example of why the Rhone River Valley is rightly famous for making concentrated wines that are delicious, tasty, fruity, and enjoyable. |

The nose likewise exhibits a slight hint of oxidation with still noticeable raspberry fruit. The sip is broad and gentle with a softened texture. The tannin and acidity provide enough background structure to keep the taste from being flabby or bland. The swallow is a nicely balanced and enjoyable mix of fruit, acid, and tannin. Although on the down side after reaching a peak a few years earlier and probably better consumed soon, it still favorably shows the joys of drinking a well aged, rounded, integrated, and seamless Chateauneuf-du-Pape. |

Visually the poured wine looked somewhat silty but this did not make the wine any less enjoyable. Tasty raspberry fruit throughout. Very nice mouth entry with refreshing acidity, a smooth texture, and well integrated tannin. Consistently one of the top 3 wines when drunk with 6 others at lunch and dinner across 5 days, with no additional deterioration. But probably best drunk up in the next 2 years. |
