I really love this wine; ‘01 may not be as good as ‘98. But it’s not far behind; fruit may be a bit more subtle, but acidity, finish and balance are great; at its peak.

Lite ”tunnare” shiraz än vad våra smaklökar uppskattar, men god! Mörka bär, lite pepprigt, fina tanniner och bra balanserat.

Bob's cellar. Dark red, no bricking at all. Blackberry, damson, red earth and ironstone nose, sweet and still has a youthful air. Eucalyptus and tannic opening, still dry, fruit is reticent on PnP basis. Powerful and big compared to the Latour, certainly not the same level of sophistication. Rich and spicy.
Day 2, knitted together better, the eucalyptus, ironstone, red earth and Australian bush is more distinct. Nice but I prefer the Edelstone.

Dark red. Sharp red fruit hits the nose first then there's a dash o blackcurrant. Shirazy black pepper tannins. Fulsome flavours, tannins are present but have softened, dry, a support of red fruit acidity, black fruit, quite simple and ok.

Complex and rich raspberries, plums, vanilla oak, sweet toasted spices and hints of cedar on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, fresh and supple structure. Good level of density and layers, transiting to a lingering and spicy finish. Drink now with some decanting for better balance. Will continue to evolve for the next 3 years.

Deep burgundy in colour. Plum jam aromas. Soft Ribena like fore palate, heading to restrained tannins. A fruit driven style near the end of its drinking window.

This is what I'm hoping for in aged but inexpensive shiraz. Medium-bodied, bright, with good acidity and blue fruits. It's obviously Australian, but really well balanced and picking up secondary flavors. These Aussie wines seem to develop so slowly under screwcap that I could imagine it going another 10+ years. More or less the same over two nights.

A relief: a good condition bottle after the faulty 2020 I had recently. Vibrant mid-purple, not opaque. On the nose, plums and cherries and a good dose of sweet vanilla. The palate is surprising: sweet fruit and vanilla, yes, but unusually high acidity. (The 2020 had that too, as well as secondary fermentation and possibly brett.) I've never had an Aussie Shiraz that is so 'bright.' I think the winemaker just about gets away with it, but it's right on the edge of being out of balance. The relatively high alcohol adds to the wine's assertive attack. The fruit length is short, but the acid tingles on my tongue for quite some time. 14.5%, screwcap.

Deep red with minor bricking.

Dusty cupboard, plum, and eucalypt on the nose.

Much more red–fruited on the palate than the recent Dutschke St Jacobi. Malty, jubey, slightly ferrous. Even and balanced, this is a very tidy wine for the money. Pretty fruit softening. Acidic backbone and with resolved tannins.

Drink now. Aways impresses with its VFM.

inky red-black, opaque.

Aromas of cola, tar, blackberry, plum, nutty earth, and pan juices. Some alcohol fume.

Glossy, dense palate. Richly fruited with a lot of the tertiary complexity coming forward. Slippery in the mouth. Chalky tannins have softened considerably since the previous bottle. Alcohol isn’t obvious on the palate except for the glossy/slippery texture.
A delightful herbal, nutty, meaty aroma emerges with extended airing.

Mid red-crimson. A large slab of sediment was evident on the side of the bottle.

Developed nose of graphite, pencils, pan juices, dusty wooden chest, star anise, cherry and blackberry.

Wonderful balance on the palate; glides across the tongue with gentle tannins, autumnal, weedy flavours and well-balanced acidity. Retains fruit sweetness
.
In a lovely spot. I may have formed an incorrect premature opinion about his ability to age.

Luxuriant and glossy, dark ruby colour. Youthful bright hue.

Some lavish oak initially on the nose but when digging deeper, earth, blackberry, baking spices, and raspberry emerge.

Acidity is a feature on the palate, while the tannins are very delicate and dusty, yet flood the mouth. A touch blocky; it doesn’t reveal its charms reluctantly. Good, but not great length. Finishes savoury and earthy yet still seems like it needs more time to open up. A strong white pepper note runs through the wine, that I initially confused with alcohol breathiness.

Opinion: Not entirely convincing; it fell apart after a couple of days open.

Screwcap.
At Bargara.

Intoxicating nose. Not overdone in any way, yet full of black fruit, deep nutty oak, a hint of iodine.

Controlled palate, almost to the point of being elegant, which is a feat for a McLaren vale Shiraz. Juicy berries, medium bodied, with drying fine tannin. It’s all front and mid palate atm.

Looked best on day 4. More red-fruited (raspberry) flavour on palate and fleshed out.

Black cherry, plum, touch of cherry liqueur. Spikily spicy on opening, intense, settled with air to show an array of spices. Little earth and mint. Ample length, impressive spread of fine tannin, pleasing wash of acidity, smidge of alcohol heat keeps the balance from being outstanding. Impressive but didn’t set my heart racing.
Night two: A different beast and quite delicious. Blue, black and red fruits. Fairly simple with mostly fruit showing. Gentle spice. Great drinkability and balance. I’ll stay at 92.
