A bottle to pair some prawns later that evening on our terraces, Chard. 55%, PN 38,5%, Mareuil Rouge 6,5%, think that means red wine addition from 1er Cru Mareuil-Sur-Ay, disgorged 18. January 2022, my first try of this one, first of all: very fresh first appearance, grapefruit, raspberry, salty and full of tension, one of the most invigorating young Roses, mouthwatering long finish, may get more balance and weight by more years in your cellar, **(*), around 89, 90(+) Last third of the bottle today: enormous freshness still, rhubarb in a very good way, great limy mouthfeel

CS dominated Cru Bourgeois, nose little fruit left , only hints of some cassis, on the palate a little lean, slightly tobacco, barnyard and underbrush, first was thinking about a light cork defect, but some sips later would say, drying out, austere, end of life from this Chateau and vintage, beginning to decline, would enjoy last bottles with food, drink up, **-?, around 85/86

Served in the garden by friends of us, good grip, zesty lemon, yeasty, well balanced, a NV to just feel fine and enjoy the afternoon outside, may get more structure with some additional cellar years, an easy 88

Third Riesling bottle try from the June visit at Bacharach, This is a bit different to the two bottles of the Premier vineyards Hahn and St.Jost , quite more creamy flow, a lot more juicy stone fruit, on the other hand lacking some of the slate floor driven tension I do like always, lots of ripe peaches on the palate, balanced even that young with some supporting acid in the background, an easy going higher class Riesling wine crowd pleaser, good long finish, will improve for some years, around 86/87

First full bottle, drunk alongside the K.H.Schneider Königsfels, the back label is showing, that the grapes are from different premier Cru floors, without further specification, maybe therefore this bottling is labeled as Ortswein (Village) only, great crispy mouthfeel, a bit firm, compared with the warm vintage Nahe bottle, chalky all the way, long aftertaste, this one needs more time to gain more Riesling structure, so wait and hold at least another 5 years, *(**- +), around 89, 90 (+)

Another try of this first vintage from K.H.Schneider, as 2018 is a warm vintage at the Nahe and therefore less acid, this got a lot of balance right now, very ripe fruit nose, tropical fruit predominantly, the first sips are showing a juicy lush tropical fruit, concentrated with supporting acid, white melon, passion fruit, and vineyard peach, great deepness of this fruit appearance here, lingering limy finish, would say this is in a great spot right now, enjoy or hold for some 5(+) more years, ***(+), 90,91(+)

PnP one bottle for starting the weekend, prior bottles consumed recently were indicating a better showing with decent decanting or more holding time, as this is a blend of different vintages, the main vintage is 2017 in this cuvee, chalky, zesty initially, good weight here, but again, with more and more aeration in the glass this one gains complexity, pome fruit, creamy nutty tones, great crispy, limy finish, as said before, will hold some bottles for the future, **(*- ****), around 91- 93

After an more or less disappointing Pommard pnp this one, ja ja ja, I have known before that this bottle will greatly improve my mood, gun powder, white pepper, great tension right in the nose,
on the palate same, the famous railway gun "Dicke Bertha" is firing at my palate, the Riesling tension after swallowing stays here for minutes, one of the best Felsenberg showings so far, Schlossböckelheim and its Felsenberg and all the great estates which fill this great stuff are saluting right away, an electric acid punch, zesty lemon peel, far away some grape fruit, the Dellchen from this vintage some days ago was more balanced and refined, this one is a Riesling gun powder king cobra! Needs more time for white acid wine snow flakes, but I really do like this untamed Riesling eruption, enjoy with a decent decant or hold a decade +, **(**+- ?), 92, 93(+) potential

2012 Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires
Pinot Noir more
|
My first try of this vineyard and estate, nose full of fruit, blueberry, red cassis, peppery, on the palate there is firm fruit, blackberry, blueberry, concentrated black cherry and some kirsch, all this very dense and fresh, a load of black pepper, a little rough still, the tannin demanding and pulling the cheeks inwards, elegance is here to stay, but lacking the finesse of better Bourgognes, a very typical Pommard showing, where is my Entrecote/Iberico/Lamb chop? Needs a decent decant still, guess good pairing with meat, or hold another decade, *(*-***), around 85 (day two)-90(+) when fully mature hopefully!
24 hours later this one is more balanced, a basket full of fruit, but the tannin, rough still, paired this half bottle for an early Abendbrot with two Iberco chops, great pairing , but the bottle due to this great vintage is lacking balance and structure still, therefore problematic QPR, had its chance, will not buy again,

A recommendation from a retailer, pnp into two glasses, take a first nose and sip, very fresh nose, cherry, herbs, meaty, slightly tobacco, the first sip shows strong, firm tannin with a nice fresh cherry fruit, two hours+ of aeration adds black pepper, blossom summer herbs, even tar slightly, this bottle is fresh, dense, mid bodied and a perfect pairing for my Entrecote, long meaty finish, for me this bottle is a bit too lean, maybe due to this vintage, but with too few bottles tasted so far, I can not really judge that, and the price tag for this mature bottle, like all searched for regions of France is also quite high,

My first try of this producer honestly, a cuvee of 70% PN and 30% Chard., disgorged 15 Sept 2020,
the smell makes you want more, warm white baguette, pome fruit,
first of all this one has a great mouthfeel, balanced, silky with fine supporting bubbles, creamy fruit flow, ripe apples, baguette again, some nutty tones, light and elegant, convincing aftertaste, for me one of the best NV entry level Champagnes so far, **-***, 88(+)

If you write down some notes you get thirsty automatically, so unscrew this one immediately, slate driven nose and palate, young, zesty, great Riesling tension, grape fruit, lemon, elegant and balanced, slate focused finish, very good! Enjoy from now on or hold some 3+ years, **(-***), around 87/ 88(+) this estate is on my watch list for Riesling again!

2000 Château Poujeaux
Moulis en Médoc
Red Bordeaux Blend more
|
This Chateau nearly never fails, you can buy some elder vintages on the secondary market for some €/$ more than at release, an easy going 20/30 years maturation in good vintages, so as a conclusion: Poujeaux long! Great nose of dark fruit, some mineral spicy hints, still good grip right from the start, mid bodied, some harsh tannin, forest floor, spice and violets, maybe a little lean, very elegant, long finish, a claret for sure!

So this one is a perfect pairing with grilled dishes, spice, spice, spice, a basket full of dark fruit, tasty, lots of ripe tannin, a demanding acid in the finish, very good now with food, but on its own would recommend to wait some 3- 5+ years, **(*+?), around 90, 91(+?)

like from Bordeaux I do like the 2015 vintage from Bourgogne as well, so pnp this one next, fresh cherry fruit predominantly, vibrant on the mid palate, great supporting acid, but this bottle is lacking some length finally, maybe it is going into or through a more closed phase right now, no rating for today

So we paired the reds with the grilled dishes, all the Ladys hinted that they would like to enjoy a fine white,
here we are, a Dönnhoff Dellchen GG, the most clean and feminin expression of German high class dry Riesling, so young still, the only VDP estate that fills this small 3 hectar vineyard, fine delicate and racy stone fruit, this elegance, an intense finesse like flow, enormous depth, long electric aftertaste, the girls were excited, like me! Highly Recommend to purchase every bottle no matter what vintage, there are very few on the market, great bottle, will improve by further cellaring! **(**-*****), 94- 96(+), an easy 95 for tonight

2015 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Red Bordeaux Blend more

As i mentioned before, if you are searching for a high class Bordeaux, quite young still, but nicely evolved and accessible now, choose the 2015 vintage, again everything is in the right place, lovely dark cassis, firm and really fresh, with great depth and a fine structure, a mineral play while swallowing, a whiff of tobacco and cedar, very good pairing with German Bratwurst, the tannin leads to a very good grip on the palate, long vibrant finish, evolves with more aeration, so give this one a decent decant and enjoy, or hold , for a decade++, **(*-****), 91- 93(+)

2011 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904
Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more

My one and only bottle from this vintage, just to have a look at it, served to our neighbors with grilled dishes,
first of all, completely different from vintages I do know and I do like, from the 90ties, older, or my beloved 2001, lot more ABV, an increase from 12,5% to 14,5%, but, well done LRA, our guests love this one, so creamy, dense and silky and with a structured but buttery red fruit, lots of balsamic notes though, but the sweet fruit stands out! There is vibrant acid for the structure, but for me a bit to much of everything, knowing that a decade ago elegance and finesse were the most important, so this bottle leaves me ambiguous, depth, great fruit are here, but lacking the fine structure from the past, a higher class crowd pleaser! so there is a wide range of rating scales, 87- 92(+)?

2015 Castelgiocondo (Marchesi de' Frescobaldi) Brunello di Montalcino
Sangiovese more
|
One from Tuscany, I do have to admit that this one is not for me,
very full bodied, with red cassis and lots of sweet cherry fruit, the tannin very sweet, somehow firm structure, lacking balance still, for me to much weight of sweet Sangiovese fruit, overripe, lots of oak treatment, will this ever be a balanced wine? And as an accompaniment to food?
Overdone in my view, or maybe changed my preferences completely?

First full bottle of this one, pnp with my girl to pair some grilled dishes, and feeling fine for the start of the weekend, fine bubbles, indicating the long time on the lees, disgorged 01/2022, very delicate fine raspberry fruit right from the start, some tasty rhubarb, finesse like flow, light and really refreshing, very balanced that young, a harmonic palate waltz, long convincing finish, blind can easily be mistaken for a champagne, a good one, **(*-****), around 91(+)

One of these affordable bottles from a lesser known and/or hyped Bourgogne ground, the young fresh filled vintage from this young, very talented and dedicated owner, first of all very clean and focused, a puristic Chard showing, not much influenced by barrel treatment, white melon, some chalk, very balanced flow with some aeration in the glass, long elegant aftertaste, highly recommended, great QPR at about 40€ per bottle, **(*-+ -?), around 90, 91(+) potential imho

A Riesling from a VDP Grosse Lage, aka GC, but there is no dry bottling from any VDP estate elsewhere, even Jakob Schneiders bottling is in this high class dry version less than 10 years on the wine market, a predominantly slate vineyard with some other volcanic elements, stone fruit rules nose and palate, on day one this bottle remains a little shy, salty swallowing, some stone licking, but lacking the punch, 24 hours later this bottle shines, juicy peach paired with great fresh tension in a very balanced way, saline mineral long aftertaste, one for the future, **(*-****), around 91, 92(+) potential
