2013 Hundred Acre Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon The Ark VineyardNapa Valley more |
10/14/2023 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 96 pointsAbsolute rockstar in all regards. Tannin and alcohol as mellow as they'll ever be for a Hundred Acre, and fruit forward but not cloying. Has to be in its prime. |

12/27/2022 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 100 pointsMight be best Napa red I've ever had, if not best wine period. In a perfect place evolution wise. Hard to envision it having further peak. Incredible length in finish, tannin and fruit in perfect sync. A triumph. |

1/30/2022 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 91 pointsSolid overall offering. Typical Stag's Leap "fist in velvet glove" experience. A little on thin and short side for me, but not offputting. This is likely at peak and probably coming down the other side so drink up if you got it. |

8/8/2021 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsAfter 36 years the structure remains though it is starting to thin. Would encourage to drink now. Fruit has dissipated but delicate tannins remain. Green and black, herbaceous and graphite. |

1984 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountainmore |
7/4/2021 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 95 pointsIncredible bottle -- I simply refuse to believe this was a 37yr old vintage. Easily could have passed for an '05-'07. The thick backbone that Howell Mountain bottlings are known for when drank early was gone, but there was no sense wine was thin or past prime. Lots of dark fruit with just hint of minerality to maintain balance. Even at 13% ALV per label, it easily holds its own in terms of overall structure compared to the (many) higher octane peers from the valley. Truly best of both worlds. |

4/1/2021 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsBlack fruit, touch of spice, ever a quintessential masculine Napa cabernet. Luxuriant mouthfeel and still structure in the tannins, chewy. This is lovely now but can still lay down for a bit - there is room to run. |

3/6/2021 - bmartz1 wrote: 94 pointsA velvet glove indeed. Decadent integration, subtlety behind the power. Black fruit, spice and a touch of oak. Still some big tannins that can ride a few years but good luck not drinking all of this right now. Bold up front, lesser impact on mid palate and the finish may walk softly but it carries a big stick. Fleshy lavish and broad. |

2/28/2021 - bmartz1 wrote: 93 pointsI still really enjoy this - flirty and approachable. Thinner finish but sometimes that’s what you want versus overwhelming viscosity. Cherry, cedar, great old world balance - certainly cannot be accused of being fruit forward. Like most Italian wines, great with food or can stand on its own. Tannins and acid in a good place. Would drink now. |

12/25/2020 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 95 pointsPerfect accompaniment to prime rib for Xmas dinner. Very likely in prime drinking window. Decanted out of a mag for 3hrs before serving. Dare I say this was somewhat restrained for a Hundred Acre: thinner mouthfeel, less fruit forward and more leather and minerality on back end. Still lush and long, but as much the dominant characteristic. Nice change of pace. |

12/25/2020 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 97 pointsProbably my new favorite champagne. Deep, honeyed yellow in the glass. Manages to perfectly combine brioche and nutty vigor with crisp minerality and a light elegant feel despite a distinguished persistence on the finish. Tastes like a heavy hand of red fruit in the blend which I always gravitate toward. Can probably keep in the cellar and let develop further but man oh man is this fabulous now. Will be tough to keep these locked away. |

11/28/2020 - bmartz1 Likes this wine: 93 pointsJuicy, succulent, great mouthfeel. How is this merlot and not a cab? Dense fruit, firm tannins, may be ever so slightly shorter on the back but that's only when using a microscope to scan for faults. An absolute pleasure. |
