2011 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard

Anderson Valley more

Moving the cellar and found this pleasant surprise. Been in a 56 degree cellar so in wonderful shape. We’ve been buying Peay for years and are fans of their light touch, age ability and true-to-terroir character.
PNP, pale rose on the edge, lovely and immediately expressive nose. Lovely acidity, nice lighter, red-leaning fruit, a bit of rose and herb. But mostly just a nice, flavorful and lovely CA Pinot in a nice drinking window. If I had more I wouldn’t feel rushed.
Just bought a bunch of their 2021s which are supposedly amazing. They may outlive me!

Opened with friends at a Japanese-themed Donner party. This has a long life ahead of it. Agree w earlier comment that you should most def serve this cellar temp and not out of the fridge. Oak is still prevelant, lime/citrus and apple mist noteworthy. Nice long finish. Enjoyed w apps. Will try again in a year of two

Drank this with at dinner with a 2003 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. Both wines were in a great spot and paired well with sous vide duck breast. Interesting comparison as the Peter Michael leans burgundian and the Beze was more of a meaty, dark fruit Cali style pinot.
Agree with Mark1npt's tasting notes below, delicious, elegant, interesting wine that avoids the cola flavors that plague so many of its west coast neighbors. Drink up!

In a really nice place. Great combo of freshness acidity and fruit wo too much sweetness or the “cola” profile I sometimes get w RRV Pinots. Paired well w grilled chicken thighs and purple rice.
Will be interested to see where this is in 2-3,years

Christmas Eve PNP with a roast baby pig; late addition paired with a 2002 Mouton. Not a great year for Bordeaux and not a fair fight. We have been fortunate enough to drink Abreu since 2006 and this did not disappoint. Agree with prior notes: full, rich and just delicious without being heavy or overbearing. Just kept getting better; led to arm wrestling for the last pour with my boys. Long life ahead, sad to only have 2 left!

Found this in the back of the cellar during a move. Nose was NOT nice, color is Ruby with a light fading towards the edge.
But…
The flavor was a pleasant surprise: baking spices, sweetness and still a bit of red fruit. Had this waiting on the roast to finish before the 2000 Mouton. Not unhappy.
Btw - pretty sure no one is still drinking this, but had to give it one last shout out.

Drank at Le Galleon in Beaune. Agree with earlier spice and energy notes. Definitely not a “mess”; lovely with the shellfish bisque and sweetbreads. Red fruits, some leather and savory notes, clearly better in a few years but wonderful on a late summer eve.

Wow. Got off the golf course, started a risotto and threw some local asarsgus and a sockeye filet on the grill. Pulled this from the cooler, PNP and super happy. Agree with most earlier comments: dark, earthy and deeply flavored, but with nice Pinot character and a blooming back end. This has plenty of life left. Much more going on here than some/many cola-flavored RRV pinots. Delicious wine. Happy to see what’s next.

My last bottle alas. May look for more on at auction.

Drank from magnum at UNC graduation party for my son Mark. WOTN. Everything you could want in a middle-aged California cab. Still dark to the rim, great nose, a bit closed at start with casis and graphite note, that evolved beautifully. Awesome flavor profile; tannins evident but well integrated, very rich, full mouthfeel, but wonderful lift kept it from being heavy. Beautiful now but still a teenager. Left everyone wanting more.

Drank from magnum at Dovetail before Leon Bridges at The Beacon.
The second of three magnums I bought at release. Opened an hour before and decanted, the wine was dark to the rim and, while delicious, has a long, long life ahead.
All the flavor so you expect in a middle-aged St. Estephe, with long, complex, cab-dominated favors, this evolved wonderfully over the course of dinner. Very satisfying, and left me wanting more (wine and time in the bottle). Will leave the last alone for at least a few more years.

First visit to this wine in 3 years. Much happier this time around. This will never be a blockbuster and no, it won't compare to the 89 or 90 (alas); but it wasn't green, thin, leafy or hollow as many have written about the 2002s. Dark to the rim, nice legs, very cab forward, tannins still present but integrating. Nice. No rush on the balance of the case, but no real reason to wait either.

Medium weight, nice legs, good balance, fruit forward, very enjoyable. Developed nicely in the glass over a couple of hours.
My oldest GV Major 7s are 09s. Very much looking foreard to seeing how this Botdeaux blend develops. Would hope it shows the lovely range of my 1990 St Juliens. Thinking it might.

Loved this wine. Drank with duck and a 2000 Usseglio mon Aieul CDP.
Both were awesome wines, but this was so much more enjoyable, complete and food friendly than the 2001 Seymours Syrah we had a couple weeks earlier. A little fresher, fruitier and less funky than the Usseglio, but both were great counterpoints to the other. Will try to get more. Highly recommended.
