2012 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra Barossa Valleymore |
2/20/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 96 pointsA tour de force this has been consistently excellent on every occasion I have tasted this vintage. There is immense structure big and bold but in perfect harmony despite the 15abv there is zero excessive heat . So seductive and juicy with dense black fruits the aromas are a total knockout. There is plenty acidity which will aid this wines development for years to come . A brilliant wine. |

2/20/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 93 pointsThere is such broad range of styles of CNDP which makes it fabulous education to taste . Whilst not a dense muscular rendition there is still plenty structure more mid weight with sweet crunchy Grenache fruit . It is currently drinking well but definitely needs decanted for a minimum of 3 hours if only for the heat of the alcohol to be subdued after this period I found the wine much more enjoyable to taste and the wine expresses its quality . Will improve but in a good place right now. |

It’s in a great place to drink now, aromas of tobacco , cocoa and forest fungi. It’s not a blockbuster but it’s a highly seductive rendition and in a Bordeaux context great value for money. |

1/18/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is currently drinking beautifully. 2017 was good vintage in the Northern Rhone . Aromas of ripe stone fruits , perfectly poised with excellent structure. Earthy with some minerals on the long mouthwatering finish. Great value it has to be said and pairs well with food. |

1/8/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 94 pointsI am a big fan of this vintage of CNDP particularly with wines that do not have excessive heat from the raised alcohol levels . This comes in at 14abv and is a pleasure to drink. I gave this a quick half hour decant whilst ensuring the wine was brought up to room temperature in a freezing Scotland where the owner does not put up the heating that’s me . Anyhow there’s a lot to like about this , big jammy fruit but also very good balance . A touch dry on the finish but let’s not complain too much. |

1/8/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 94 pointsWow I can’t believe how much this wine has changed from over a year ago. My first half bottle of Guiraud left me feeling the wine had not fully integrated particularly with the alcohol poking through and dominant over the fruit. Roll on one year and this has transformed both in appearance and on the palette. It has lovely amber colour and the aromas are so exotic which is matched on one’s tastebuds . Nice acidity will allow this to age but given how this has changed so quickly I will gauge how it evolves . |

1/8/2024 - stkilda Likes this wine: 96 pointsA beautifully crafted wine very elegant with everything in balance nothing excessive just full of class and captivating with every sip with great tension and a hint of acidity on the gorgeous finish. I gave this a two hour decant which did no harm. Very expressive aromatically of ripe hedgerow berries, and forest fungi . One of my favourite domaines … |

10/29/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis is a very classy offering from Ch Montrose . I was enthused by the uniform high ratings of CT reviews so decided let’s open a bottle . The general consensus is that it would benefit from a serious decant so that certainly came into my thoughts so I made the decision to decant the wine with an aerator for 3 hours prior to dinner . In hindsight it was a good decision. One reviewer commented that the wine was reminiscent of a voluptuous Napa Cabernet and I can certainly understand those comparisons . However that’s where it ends for me . Aromatically it’s true to its Northern Medoc terrior with scents of ripe blackberries bushes , lavender , graphite and pencil shavings . There is great persistence on the palette with a long satisfying finish with a gorgeous texture and silky mouthfeel. You can comfortably drink this now it’s giving so much sensory pleasure . 10 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

There is immense structure and length but in terms of enjoyment it’s not worth popping the cork at least for me. No harm in evaluating for your own opinion. 7 people found this helpful, do you? 10/10/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 93 pointsFrom a 375ml bottle . I often find with young Bordeaux it’s really not worth the exercise as it’s often way too young to give pleasure . So I was really somewhat surprised that at this early stage of the wines development it was so approachable . Really quite soft on one’s palette , nothing out of place with balance with a bit of grip and tension on the earthy mineral finish. Very expressive aromatics that are tell tale left bank , lovely fruit . I would recommend opening this. |

8/7/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 94 pointsQuite delicious there is core of great fruit red currants and cranberries come to mind somewhat tart but all the more complete for that .Lovely silky mouthfeel already approachable shows you don’t need to pay top dollar for a damn good Burgundy . There was a considerable amount of deposit remaining in the bottle. |

8/7/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 93 points2nd Bottle from a case of six and my comments from over 2 years ago would mirror my observations today . Definitely needs decanting for it to open up and show its best . Stylistically quite different to previous vintages. Elevated alcohol levels a bit of a concern in the overall balance of the wine. |

4/19/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 94 pointsI last tasted the vintage 3 years ago and perhaps made the error of having the wine over chilled which probably made the wine less expressive. On this occasion I purposely allowed this time out of the fridge and the experience was all the better for it. Still fresh, with elegance , balance and a wide spectrum of flavours on the satisfying finish. No need to drink up has years remaining . |

4/19/2023 - stkilda wrote: 90 pointsDisappointed second bottle of six expected better things but sadly not. Aromatically the wines aromas smell a little over cooked , has this already peaked ? On the palette it was better , smooth slightly awkward but not in a way that you salivating for another glass. Bordeaux with its premium pricing is such a let down when one does not derive pleasure from a bottle of wine the disappointment is compounded … the 2012 vintage of this wine was absolutely delicious . |

2/12/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 96 pointsThis has developed beautifully from the austerity of its youth. The elements have integrated providing lip smacking enjoyment. Despite the 14 percent ABV there is nothing heavy about this wine the balance is impeccable, there’s a moreish creamy texture with ripe fruits that are satisfyingly mouth filling . Very classy indeed with gorgeous luminosity. |

2/4/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 96 pointsA wine of great poise and elegance it’s wonderful how all the elements of the wine are interwoven providing such satisfaction. It’s not a muscular powerhouse more of an intellectual wine that captivates and engages one’s senses. There’s an energetic acidity holding everything together with savoury and herbaceous flavours and ripe fruits. Impeccably balanced a major triumph and a wine that gets you talking .Decanted two hours beforehand with an aerator. Ready to drink. |

1/16/2023 - stkilda Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was almost impenetrable in its youth but with a few years development this has truly turned the corner . It’s aromatically astonishing with ripe fruits in abundance . It dances elegantly across one palette and holds one spellbound . The finish is off bitter dry lemons. This will continue to evolve beautifully . |
