It has no nose. Likely a subtle TCA taint causing the suppression.

Aerated for 1 1/2 hours, served in a Spiegelau Definition Burgundy Glass. Pale gold colour.

Nose: Tart red apple, pear and peaches at first. Notes of orange blossom, dried herbs, lemon grass and yeast arise. Crushed stones and wet stones come through as well, Lemon zest and lime juice on the way out.

Palate: Yellow apple, peach and hints of pear on the palate, notes of herbs soon after. Very fresh acidity, bright salinity and slight viscosity. Orange blossom, lemon zest, lime juice and wet stone on the finish.

Bought for 23€ at the winery, for that price this wine might be one of the best of the Südsteiermark. Great depth of flavour and structure, really goes to show what an underappreciated varietal like Welschriesling is capable of.

Dark berry/currant fruit nose with some floral and sappy wood notes for complexity. Medium-full bodied palate with good balance and structure.

Closed. Chalky nose, very elegant presence; good refined acidity. Red berries, subbtle presence, but the concentration is intense. Dry, manly, strict - too young, something else.

Cloudy medium dull ruby - a little musty ? TCA ? but eventually blew down a little to see advanced stewed cinnamon spiced strawberries. Should this represent accurately where this wine is it appears advanced and should be in the short line to drink. Damaging heat exposure may have contributed to this advanced specimen as it was purchased in 375 format upstairs in a wineshop in Madrid with a stuck seal and a stripe down the back - cork was flat however - and an adjacent ‘16 Dofi in 375 format while fresher and without a hint of TCA still seemed advanced. Maybe house style? Mogador and Manyetes from vintages around turn of century and some later drink with more freshness and vivacity.

Has a touch of the under-ripe black fruit character to the nose. That follows through on the palate as well.

Bright, zippy, and juicy, with lots of clear red fruit - sour cherry, strawberry, and raspberry. There wasn't a lot of complexity beyond the fruit so it's a little on the simple side. Tasty, but kind of pricey for what it is.

Nose of strawberry and spices.

Very classic palate, there is a touch of wood, but above all beautiful floral aromas. It’s tasty, with lots of character in the second half of the palate where the spicy strawberry comes back like a boomerang. Beautiful acidity which draws out a dense juice. Finish with silky tannins, almost ferruginous with good length on black tea.

Excellent.

Nose: Ripe red apple pastry, brioche and citrus.

Palate: Ripe red apples, brioche, almond pastries, stone fruits and minerals. Fresh crisp acidity, very well integrated mousse and long finish.

From a single plot called Le Mont des Tours. Deg 12-21, Dosage 2gr/L. When you first put it up to your nose, it's like walking into a pastry shop followed up by citrus. Quite Vinous nose. Great mousse there are a lot of bubbles, but they are soft and well integrated. Nice freshness to maintain balance and long finish. Great value at 90 euro, I would almost call it a steal.

Has a nice nose - spice, but also dark berry fruit character to it. Palate is a bit more stiff and not totally filled in. But hey, at $12.99 a bottle it works it out to me.

2 1/2 hour decant (I tried less time, didn' t work). Medium Garnet with aromatic wall of blackberries and hint of oak and sweet tobacco. Med+ acid, slightly crunchy tannins, med+ body, black currant with well-integrated oak, hint of alcohol (sweetness, not hot) and blood orange. Long finish with an edge of bitter.

Has a calm and quite nose to it. Palate is serene and lively.

Second bottle of this wine. With a very good balance between citrus, minerals, acidity and modest oak. Excellent like (almost) always. Despite its age of five years still at its top. 91-92.

Strict and tight. Intense, as usual, if not as intense at the core as other years; the vintage speaks. House style also, dry, vertical, stiff upper lip here, if you can think of a contradiction to Cambie.

In Magnum.

Iodized and lemony nose.

Mouth with a glycerin texture. Aromas of green apple followed by a strong minerality but which struggles to express itself fully. On restraint, still very straight but with a nice balance. Good iodized finish.

Very good but to wait

A weekday in Diessenhofen, pairing with ravioli from globus. Medium ruby color. Red cherries, roses, touch of smoke, white pepper, mushrooms on the nose. Med+ acidity, med body, med alcohol, med flavor intensity, dry tannins and med finish. Smoky, balanced acidity, nice crunchy cherries, lingering salinity, quite likeable wine and what I am looking for in a Nebbiolo from the region.

My first Langhe from Massolino - and a great experience - well balanced with lots of fruit- it’s cranberries, cherries and a hint of strawberries medium + tannins and acidity- I think 92 is a fair rating.

Quite mature, dusty, rich, heavy on the chocolate, not atypical for the vintage - and very typical for a riserva. Still, sexy stuff.

Dense opaque bright youthful black crimson - meaty bloody red and black fruits cinnamon spiced oak rich velvety with tangy acids and regal mouthcoating tannins. From the area of Rioja that abuts Ampuis? Striking special juice from a maker whose “regular” cuvees always impress. Enjoyable now for certain and properly cellared for next gen too. Bravo!!

(Chevaliers du Tastevin label)- a gorgeous elegant nose of bergamot tea spice, licorice, orange zest, various sous bois influences, with bits of hickory smoke that come together in a very airy, ethereal fashion. This wine is all about resolution with delicate fruit remnants are compelling and stylistic. This is beautiful!

Just excellent. Still youthful (surprisingly so) but with no harsh tannin and the clear presence of secondary notes. Lots of blue and black fruit and density, as a good PS should have. Great with ribs. Cork broke, though, so use an ah-so.

Disgorged Nov 2022. 50% Chardonnay, 30% PN, 20% Meunier. 5g/l dosage.

Mostly citrus, a touch of yeastiness, a bit of brine, and a slightly weird flavour on the finish. Otherwise a nice bubbly and I'm happy with the mystery wine purchase.

My second Cahors. The first, from Ch Vincens, impressed me greatly. This one was... decent. Some dark fruit on the nose, and same on the palate with a slight vegetal layer, but well integrated. Decent acidity, but not very tannic. The whole affair is quite subdued and lacklustre.
My disappointment began when I noticed that it didn’t seem to work with what I thought would be a sure fire pairing: burgers. The second night, the bottle had improved slightly, and the fruit was a bit more forward, but I see no need to revisit this producer.
I trust Cahors #3 will take things back “upward”.

Medium+ aromas of lemon, peach, blossom, mango, vanilla, cedar, hazelnut. High refreshing acidity. Medium+ finish. Perhaps a touch reductive. Still a few more years to improve as more tertiary elements emerge.

Haft denna flaskan öppen (korken på i kylskåpet) i 7-8 dagar och den blev bara bättre och bättre efter en trevande inledning där den luktade mindre trevligt! Bra köp!!

I am not a fan of sangiovese generally. Really a pedestrian pizza wine to me, save for Brunello. This one's nice though. The red cherry and tomato are present. So this is identifiable as a sangiovese. But there's more other fruitiness than normally here. Almost a bit merloty. Not much in terms of tannins or acidicity. Decent and serviceable. And that's a real compliment from me for any sangiovese. EDIT: found out that this has more merlot than sangiovese. So the reason I liked this a lot for a sangiovese is that it has more merlot, my favorite grape, than sangiovese. So what we likely have we is would be a decent merlot messed up by some sangiovese blended in :)
