Introduction

A few odds and sods from our holiday, almost all drunk with cheese and ham and shared between two over 2-4 hours.

Flight 1 (14 notes)

Red
2001 Domaine Henry Coteaux du Languedoc Saint-Georges-d'Orques France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc Saint-Georges-d'Orques
89 points
Soft tannin, wour bitter cherry, very fresh still. Best bottle yet.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Selosse V.O. Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Disgorged 2 Dec 04, Blend of chopped and butter fried mushrooms, baked apple skin, just a little hollow on the finish, doing well.
White - Sparkling
1998 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Special Club France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
89 points
Quite unforgiving, fresh citrus, very undeveloped and strict on the finish
White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée France, Champagne
94 points
Surprising sulphur on the nose, tight, packs a big punch of sour fruit and toasty candied fruit, then earthy with gunpowder.
White - Sparkling
1995 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Signature Extra Brut France, Champagne
90 points
Some rich faint sherry, follows to mature apple, slightly thin finish though, soft malic acids, unsatisfying, dose higher.
Rosé - Sparkling
1995 Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Signature Rosé France, Champagne
92 points
Mid copper a bit more generous than the blanc, some sweet light fruit giving depth to a quite dry core of citrus and light yeast with a hint of caramel, more acid than the blanc too. Better
White - Sparkling
1990 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
94 points
Younger than a bottle last year, full of soft red fruit, fooled maybe. No oxidative notes, bright red fruits remain with with some hazelnut and biscuit later.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Code LE13010J, bought in April 06. Very vibrant, almost ctropical (at a stretch), beautiful poise and a balanced light steely minerality.
White - Sparkling
1996 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
92 points
Not as good a showing as last year, rich pain au raisin, seems resrictive on the mid palate, the searing acidity seems to compact the finish, an odd showing.
White - Sparkling
1997 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
93 points
Lots of ripe grapefruit, very pleasant showing (just as well - last bottle) some lean tension but well framed, certainly prettier than the 90 or 06, but no worse for that, reminds me of the 2000.
White - Sparkling
1990 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
96 points
Code V41, Rich expansive nose of fat sultana, yeast and a hint of cellar. A rich opulent expereince in the mouth, harmonised sweet fruit. Effortless given the intensity. However to my mind this is fully ready now on this showing, the initial mixed maturity notes are now resolved, approaching peak, but will last a while.
White - Sparkling
2003 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
90 points
Nose of toast and overripe pear. A big party wine all front and low acid. Delicious now.
White - Sparkling
1986 Billecart-Salmon Champagne Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart France, Champagne
93 points
Less salty tang than the last bottle, very nice, drinking at peak.
