Rosé
2009 Bieler Père et Fils Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Rosé Sabine France, Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

Shy nose, with a bit of watermelon. Gah, so flat on the palate, flabby as crap, slightly harsh. No life in this wine.
Red
1998 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
91 points
Slight coffee color, quite brown. The nose has a lot of that duck-dipped-in-soy-sauce thing that I get on over-the-hill Bordeaux. On the palate, smooth, melted-away tannins, okish acidity. Slightly flabby. Sausage. Creamy. Nice, but over the hill. The dregs make this better, giving it a little more youthful structure.
Red
2007 Amavi Cellars Syrah USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
87 points
Dark fruit-forward nose, blackberries. Ripe, smooth, slightly hot. Kind of a gritty texture. Rubbery? Bitter finish.
Red
2008 Torbreck Woodcutter's Shiraz Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
89 points
Dark fruit-forward nose. Smooth, slightly elegant. Blueberry. A little jammy sweetness. Typical Shiraz, but more elegant. 14.5%, $23
Red
2005 Foxen Syrah Williamson-Doré Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley
91 points
Great nose, meaty, S. Rhone-y. Smooth, nice acid, light tannins. Ripe and alcoholic, but almost elegant.
Red
2004 Rudi Schultz Syrah South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
90 points
Yes! 92 points Spectator and CellarTracker and 90 points IWC. My wine tasting friends, who are hopefully reading this, thought I was on crack for really enjoying this one. Ok, there's some Band Aid. Now that that's out of the way, this has a beautiful nose bursting with acidity, great structure, balanced alcohol and a creamy texture. It's not a knockout, but it's a delicious wine.
Red
2008 Château Coupe Roses Minervois La Bastide France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois
86 points
Slightly foxy nose. Decent structure. Talc bomb. Ok.
Red - Sweet/Dessert
2005 St. James Winery Norton Dessert Wine USA, Missouri
80 points
Aged nose, not bad, and without any foxiness. Great start on the palate - nice mouthfeel. But then comes the mid-palate, and oh god, the finish. An overwhelming foxiness takes over and kills this hard. It's hard to score this, but the initial attack exceeded expectations. If you never need to swallow, this is the wine for you.
