1928 Château Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Awesome honor to be able to sample this stunning wine. Only slightly brown...and at the rim! The color was still more of a deep garnet hue.
Some spicy strawberry, anise, inky iodine baking spices, balsamic and sweet white truffles. Some birch bark flavors linger coupled with more feminine and elegant red berries.
There's some cool vegetation going on as well - almost like a rhubarb and lightly roasted red pepper sensation.
Believe it or not there was still really nice underlying tannin structure and acidity. Everyone was really digging this juice. So cool. What an experience.
Red
1959 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Ruby color. Still dark and opaque at the center. Turning dark brick red at the rim. Darker stone fruit with balsamic, caramel and roasted nuts. A unique cashew butter play.
At its peak it shows a classic gripping finish. Dark raspberry and woody style in the end. Really nice, but don't see the plus 95 score range coming into play with this juice. Drink this now.
Red
1966 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
90 points
Most brown in color when compared to the '28 Haut Brion and '59 Mouton.
Almost a peachy color with muted fruit poured over rusty nails. A little plush with loads of old leather saddle.
Red
1975 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Light red color. Rubber, leather and earth on the nose. Touch of age and tons of grip on the palate. Soft light nutty play. Really nice acid drive on the back end.
Red
1981 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Really showing oxidation. Kind of dead in terms of fruit. Elegant but not my cup of tea. There is also a black tea component on the nose and palate. Pass.

1996 Château Latour Grand Vin France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Gorgeous masculine funk. Moist life. Candied cherries. The palate is lovely and floral driven. Powerful. Super young.
Balanced finish. Precision in the acid, tannin and alcohol integration.
Red
1997 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
96 points
Super heady meaty funk. Ripe bombastic fruits. A unique blue cheese play coupled with spice and super wet dog - so cool.
Creamy and feminine personality. Just so so yummy and tasty. The nose draws you in instantly and doesn't let go until the wine is in your belly.
A lengthy finish. Superb balance. Awesome. Instant fan of this single vineyard gem. I think this bottling is well worth the coin - if ridiculous funktified juice is your sort of thing - it's certainly my style.
If this was an "off vintage" I can't wait to try one of the more touted years. Bravo!

Tasted beside the '97 Guigal Mouline. Similar styling - really funky, cheesy, ripe - heady and hedonistic.
Really nice balanced finish - great mid palate. Still really young, this was great, but didn't have the complexity and rich layering the Mouline displayed.
Less approachable now than the Mouline as well. Gripping masculine structure. Great acidity on the back end. Fantastic wine.
I was surprised how similar in style the two bottlings turned out to be.

Lovely, vibrant and young. Lots of creme de cassis, blueberry pie, a bit of red rose petals and a unique nuttyness I really enjoy - dates.
Big velvety finish. Finesse driven finish. Focused acidity. This is a pure complete package. This should age well. I would lay it down for 5-7 years.
Recommended.

1997 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT Italy, Tuscany, Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT

Subtle fruit. Doesn't seem like there's much life left in the bottle. Falls short on the mid palate for a wine of this pedigree.
The finish is a little lean and short. This wasn't my favorite wine of the tasting. Still, there's some pleasant earth, spice and some dried out flowers.
A good wine, but not like other Flac I've sampled.
Red
1989 Opus One USA, California, Napa Valley

Old World Bordeaux styling. Pleasant mouth feel with good acidity. Some nice stewed fruity components - darker cherry - a bit reductive.
Solid, after some searching I uncovered a unique marmalade, even an orange floral component. Nice wine.

More New World styling than the '89 tasted by its side. Much more life in the juice as well.
Softer tannin structure showing better integration. Strawberries and cream and light baking spice on the palate.
Excellent well stuffed mid palate that flawlessly transitions into the focused finish.
Beautiful finish, but I think this still has another five years until it reaches its prime.

2002 Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley

Stunning and profound wine no doubt. Showing an endless array of flavors I don't know where to begin.
Anise, green bell pepper, super ripe blockbuster fruit - strawberries, cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and blackberries - yes red and blackberries.
All of the fruit has a really cool anisey quality harnessed to them. Luscious rich mouth feel without being overbearing whatsoever.
Totally heady all the way home. Really young, this will easily see its 30th birthday, but it's impressively approachable today with some decanting.
This was one of my favorite wines of the tasting along with the '97 Guigal Mouline.

2002 B.R. Cohn Cabernet Sauvignon Silver Label Sonoma County USA, California, Sonoma County

Nice. A little austere on the finish.
Big fruit. Cherry with grip. Balance with higher acidity levels.
Good, but tasting this after '02 Bryant is hard to appreciate what this does bring to the table.
Red
1996 Antonio Vallana e Figlio Boca Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Boca

Menthol, piney, fragrant light better and tar on the nose.
Nice palate. More minty and fresh pine needle play. Good acidity. Solid finish.
White
2008 Jemrose Viognier Egret Pond USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley

Really lovely impressionable white wine from this newly loved producer in my book.
Yellow apple, peachy, white flowers. Awesome honey play. The balance, the texture, the weight - it's all in line.
Highly recommended from this excellent up and coming winery from winemaker Michael Browne.
Red
2008 Jemrose Grenache Foggy Knoll USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley

Jammy fruit. Some blue and red berries with nice acidity. Medium bodied package with a creamy lush finish.
Feminine in style. Excellent wine that isn't over extracted like many New World Grenache.
