Flight 1 - Aperitif (2 notes)
Both whites too old and should have been drunk a few years earlier.
White
2000 Coldstream Hills Chardonnay Reserve
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Some wet ass and a lil burg like. Wet oak and mushrooms. Orangey some peels , overnight fruits. Should have been drunk earlier by a few years.
Flight 2 - The lone white (1 note)
Ex ellent showing for an aged Aussie chard. But didn't pair too well with the seared scallops which were shouting for something more crisp. But the Parma ham did go well.

Precise pin point precision citric fresh zesty lemon notes. Good acid structure carrying lovely sun ripe fruits. Delicious! Aged nicely and open for business.
Flight 3 - Penfolds flight (2 notes)
Decent showing by the younger brothers of grange though more commercial in style and v clinical. Paired ok with the kurabuta pork which was done pretty well like a deconstructed ba zhang dumplings.

Black Raspberries, lifted spices, Paine grille. Nice spiciness, well balanced. Good bodied nicely ripe fruit. Not heavy. Some sweet cassis and just a touch of spiciness. Some smokiness. Not vey comPlex but standard is there.

Minty herbal tea of the best quality.good velvety after eight mint dark chocolate slices. Dark black cherries and fresh weighty fruits.
Flight 4 - Clarendon flight (2 notes)
Excellently made brookman! This is really a steal given it should cost much lesser than the two top heavy weights of the night. The grenache paired better with the quail with curry sauce though.

1998 Clarendon Hills Shiraz Brookman
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon
Rhone Bordeaux mix on the nose with backward crushed blackforest berries. Dark meats , exotic spices. Balanced and v v v leather and with sweet cassis but I will be hard pressed to notthink it's a pauliiac or rhone. Dark lilacs. Excellent finishing with garrigue and matchstick smoke. V backward v old world with horse manure and exceptionally done syrah.
Flight 5 - Grange vs australis (2 notes)
Legend against legend or as famously put a Titan against a titan! the grange started off better with more attractive fruits and more open aromas. But with more aeration the australis really took off quickly and matched up. At the end, the australis developed further secondary notes with the grange still running on the same speed.

At first cockroach legs and old cupboard smells with crushed beetles. With time got more Berryish and very more forward with very just nicely ripend blackberries blueberries and gobbish fruits. Good as it is it's very well done with it's fruits.Actually with time this became more structured. Hints of mintyness. Quite elegant. At the end, this really evolved into something totally old worldish. Leather and tar comes thru. More structure. Fowl feathers come
Out now.

Consistent expectable top authentic quintissential Aussie shiraz. Beautiful raspberries blueberries and plumpish ripe black
Prunes. Lovely fruit juice. Juicy juicy juicy and mouthwatering. What u should expect. Some smooth spices and graphite but nit as secondary as previously tasted.
