Introduction

After the success of our Sociando Mallet vertical last month, I deciced to try again with Calon Segur. in celebration of thanksgiving and my father's birthday, i assembled a 1978, 1988, 1995 and 200 CS for the event

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
1979 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Part of a Calon Segur tasting including '79. '88, '95, '00. this bottle was either way over the hill or corked. When we opened it, it immediately had a off-putting funk. While it eventually blew off and the wine was drinkable, it soon went south and was left behind given the other CS's that were at the table
Red
1988 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
92 points
Part of a Calon Segur tasting including '79. '88, '95, '00. this bottle turned out to be the overall favorite. it started slow and took a good hour or so to open up, but evolved into a beautiful mature Bordeaux.

1995 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
91 points
Part of a Calon Segur tasting including '79. '88, '95, '00. This was the second favorite of the 4 bottles. it is developing nicely and was very approachable. Definitely has more time in it, no rush to drink the last one now.

2000 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Part of a Calon Segur tasting including '79. '88, '95, '00. The youngest of the 4 wines tasted. This wine has many years to go before it develops and opens up. Opened several hours before our tasting and did not seemto evolve much over that time. I believe this bottle is still closed down and will not be ready for a while. Looking forward to trying another in 5-10.
