Red
1997 Cave de Tain Cornas Les Nobles Rives France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
flawed
corked
Red
2007 Cave de Tain Crozes-Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage
86 points
dark black fruit profile. pleasant but lacking in complexity.
Red
2003 J. Vidal-Fleury Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
90 points
very dark fruit, pepper, and some raw meat notes. medium finish develops a little heat.
Red
1999 Apex Cellars Syrah USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
86 points
black pepper dominated palate. med(-) finish is a bit sour.
Red
2008 Qupé Syrah USA, California, Central Coast
89 points
this was a pleasant surprise for the $14 price. fruity plum notes lead in before a pleasant dark character takes over. medium finish.
Red
2008 Tensley Syrah USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
91 points
black pepper sits on top of -- and adds complexity to -- some dark fruity notes. this was my favorite of the night.

maybe i have the wrong bottling, as i am shocked by the reviews here...
Red
2007 Montes Alpha Syrah Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
87 points
black cherry and other dark fruit. this has a med(+) finish that starts out pleasant but then develops some heat.
Red
2009 Yellow Tail Shiraz Australia, South Eastern
83 points
sweet syrupy black fruit.
Red
2009 Mollydooker Shiraz The Boxer Australia, South Australia
90 points
hot and loaded with fruit, as i expect from these. the alcohol was actually less apparent on this than some of the other bottles that were quantitatively much lower, but it was there. slutty red fruit profile. some aftertaste left behind that i didn't consider as part of the already med(+) finish.
Red
2005 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
90 points
better than the last bottle of this i tried, still not worth the price tag. much more restrained than the mollydooker, but still primary in it's fruit. shows some spice that is pleasant on the midpalate.
