Introduction
Stuart and Mike organized a great dinner at Collichio and Sons
Flight 1 - Waiting for Ed (1 note)
White - Sparkling
2002 Dom Pérignon Champagne
95 points
Very approachable right now, tropical fruits with a citrus coming to the fore
Flight 2 (2 notes)
Lobster with lemon raviolinis that were amazing
White
2002 Etienne Sauzet Chevalier-Montrachet
95 points
Elegance, minerality, citrus, green apple and a pile of ricks. Love Sauzet and this is a great one, although not as powerful as the 99. Be interesting to see if it develops. Seemed quite ready. Preferred to the very nice Niellon it was paired with.
White
2002 Domaine Michel Niellon Chevalier-Montrachet
94 points
Butterscotch, white flower, rich mouthfeel, good minerality and surprisingly drinkable now. i think most people preferred this to the Sauzet, which I liked better, but this is a very beautiful wine.
Flight 3 (2 notes)
ROASTED HUDSON VALLEY RABBIT WITH STINGING NETTLES, SMOKED HONSHIMEJI & GREEN GARLI
Red
1990 Domaine Leroy Clos Vougeot
91 points
I am giving this the benefit of the doubt. Very tight and did not open up with an hour in the glass.
Red
1990 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux
95 points
Incredible mouthfeel, smooth and silky with a multilayered nose and attack and the most unusual (but very nice) finish with burnt orange. This is a great wine and was the wine of the night form several people, although it was eclipsed by the outstanding Bordeaux's we had next
Flight 4 (5 notes)
NIMAN RANCH RACK OF PORK WITH SAUSAGE STUFFED MOREL, RAMPS & RHUBARB CHUTNEY. The pork belly was as good as anything I have ever tasted
Red
1990 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse)
100 points
Double decanted and rebottled for 5 hours before tasting. The nose knocked me on my ass. The depth and richness and intensity was unique in my experience. Black/purple after 20 years, this is one of the most concentrated, powerful wines I have tasted, yet it has great finesse. Have it if you can
Red
1990 Château Cheval Blanc
99 points
Ripe, with sweet black fruits, multilayered complexity, leather, mint and incredibly rich, silky and utterly delicious.
Red
1998 Château Cheval Blanc
96 points
Very tight, hard to see this getting the rich, ripeness of the 90 but clearly going to be terrific.
Red
1998 Château Trotanoy
91 points
Started out think (probably open 90 minutes at this point)and watery and iI put it aside. An hour later, it started to take on strength. Got to fairly nice after a while, but could not keep up with the magnificent company.
Flight 5 (2 notes)
BRAISED SHORT RIB, CHARRED ONION AGNOLOTTI & CELERY ROOT
Red
1999 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
95 points
Purple, dense and powerful. Dark berries, rich, concentrated with an undercurrent of cassis and spices. This is going to be a great wine in 5-10 years.
Red
2004 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
92 points
Better than I had expected although very, very tight you could see glimpses of very nice wine down the road
Flight 6 (1 note)
Closing
It was a great evening, with epic wines and great company
