Introduction

A friend's birthday tomorrow so I brought some wine from Vogue and Leroy, two of his favorites. Glad they showed nicely.

Flight 1 (14 notes)

White
2003 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
flawed
Very oxidized, very sad.
White
2004 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
92 points
Moderately floral nose, very clean. Flavors show crisp, clean apple and pear flavors with great acidity and minerality and a reasonable amount of baby fat in the middle. Opened for a friend's birthday, this bottle showed much better than the last time I tried this in October 2010.
Red
2002 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
93 points
Floral aromatics with blast of wild strawberry. Similar red fruit on palate, showing lots of power and density on finish. Very good length. I was surprised to see how wonderfully the Lambrays 02 is showing, best it has ever tasted. Still lots of upside.
Red
1986 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
90 points
Lean and elegant on both the nose and palate. Red fruit with good spice and pepper, complemented by earthiness. Lots of acidity, so not the greatest balance. Tasted double blind, I first guessed Burgundy, but then immediately zeroed in on Chave when told it wasn't a Burg.
Red
1990 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
93 points
Red fruit aromatics with lots of spice and classic Leroy perfume. Nose is expansive and pretty. Fruit shows lots more structure than I expected from the aromatics. Lots of power and tannins - many people guessed this was from 1993, and I might have made the same guess. While highly structured, the palate also shows spicy red fruit - lots of raspberry and strawberry. Very spicy, elegant finish.
Red
1981 Château Lagrange (Pomerol) France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
80 points
Old, tired, uninteresting
Red
2007 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Lots of red fruit with some nice spice. Bit of rose petal started to emerge after open a bit longer. Oak seems a bit prominent right now, but will certainly integrate nicely in a few more years. Better when tasted an hour+ after first poured. Slightly sappy fruit, somewhat dominated by acidity right now, but I think it will be very interesting as it gains weight over the next 4-8 years.
Red
1994 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
Nice red cherry fruit, showing some age, slightly more than i'd expect from 1994. Everything is nicely integrated and balanced, this was a highly enjoyable wine at today's tasting.
Red
2007 Dalla Valle Maya USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
90 points
Dark and spicy aromatics, clearly showed it New world character from first sniff. Flavors of blackberry and blueberry, this wine really showed lots of heat in the middle (bottle says 14.8%), but seemed much more moderate and elegant on its finish. One taster pointed out a creaminess that seemed somewhat inelegant to me. The finish makes me very optimistic regarding this wine's potential, but the nose and start were less interesting than older vintages of Maya I've had the opportunity to taste.
Red
1997 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
flawed
Incredibly old and advance, seemed to show heat damage.
Red
2007 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Very bright red fruit on the nose, with far less floral aspects than I'd expect from Dujac. Palate shows the same red fruit, a bit lean and acidic. Not perfectly balanced right now, I'd give this more time than most other 2007s. I wish there was more primary fruit at this stage in its development.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2005 Markus Molitor Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Beerenauslese * Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
Not served blind. Wonderful flavors of ripe peach and a touch of orange peel, with lots of energy and lift on finish. Big fruit, lots of power.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2000 René Renou Bonnezeaux Cuvée Zenith France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Bonnezeaux
89 points
Not served blind.Darker color than I expected. Lots of fruit, but didn't come across as ripe as I'd expect from a sweet wine. Not much energy either, the finish cam across as rather dull. Somewhat disappointing, perhaps it was just overshadowed by the Molitor 2005 BA's sweetness and acidity.
White - Sparkling
1997 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
A bit hard to assess after cake and sweet wines, but it seemed very linear and precise, much like when I've tasted it before. Taste of apple and pear with a long sharp finish. Not quite as charming as when I tasted it last, but again, this came at a tough time of day that made it challenging to taste completely.
