Flight 1 (13 notes)

Red
2001 Mi Sueño Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Excellent, balanced 2001 Cab. Nice deep color and complex, deep red fruit flavors. Very supple, soft style with balanced small grained tannins. 45+ second finish suggests ability to last for another 7 to 10 years.
White
2004 Sonoma Coast Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Hummingbird Hill USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
Had at Wine Tasting. Excellent Sauvignon Blanc. Complex citrus flavors of orange, lemon, and lime and very good depth of flavors. Very crisp finish with lots of acidity making it an easy wine to pair with food.
Red
2003 Possums Vineyard Shiraz Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
91 points
Had at Wine Tasting. Wonderful McLaren Vale Shiraz. Excellent deep purple color. Lots of red fruits - cherry, raspberry, blackberry with a touch of pepper. Long 45+ second finish with balanced tannins. Lots of depth and complexity.
Red
2004 Fire Station Red Shiraz USA, California
85 points
Had at wine tasting. Drinkable but not great. Opens with good amount of red fruit - cherry and raspberry. Little of no tannins and an almost non-existent finish delivers a wine with little balance.
Red
2001 Pezzi King Merlot Susie's Reserve USA, California, Sonoma County
91 points
Had at Wine Tasting. Big surprise. Excellent big fruit flavors with a nice balanced finish that provides a very good tasting merlot. Wasn't expecting this wine to be as good as it was.
Red
2003 Two Hands Shiraz - Cabernet Sauvignon The Lucky Country Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
90 points
Had at Wine Tasting. Excellent value ($13) from a great winery - Two Hands. This is a great tasting shiraz/cab blend from Barrosa. Very fruit forward style. Tons of deep red fruit and dark purple color. The addition of cab helps create a nice balance. One of my favorite everyday red. The Lucky Country has been a consistent 90 point wine for 4 or 5 straight vintages.
Red
2001 Antinori Chianti Classico Pèppoli Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
90 points
Had at wine tasting. Very good Chianti that begs to be paired with food (ie. Pasta with Marina Sauce and tons of garlic). Extemely dry but possesses sufficient fruit to drink alone, but really would shine paired with food.
White
2003 Turnbull Viognier USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
91 points
Had at wine tasting. Very good viognier. Plenty of acidity to make it very food friendly. Herbal and grassy aromas and mouth. Nice long finish. A complex white wine that delivers a very pleasant mouthfeel.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pommery Champagne Brut Royal France, Champagne
90 points
Had at wine tasting. Nice crisp champagne with fine and bountiful bubbles. Picked up a nice amount of minerality and citrus, with a well-defined crisp finish.
Red
2002 Terra Valentine Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
92 points
Had at Wine Tasting. Big, bold good value mountain cab ($35). Picked up a touch of earth, chocolate and tons of deep red fruit on the nose. Lots of tannins provide a nice balance to the black and red-fruit flavors in a very mouth-filling cab. This will probably get better with a couple of years of bottle aging.
Red
2004 Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Sonoma County USA, California, Sonoma County
90 points
Had at wine tasting. Always one of my favorite value-priced Zins. This effort is good, but not as good as the 2003. Still packs a lot of fruit and pepper on the finish but is not as deep or complex as last year's vintage. Still for the price, it is tough to find a better Zin for the price.
Red
2003 Raymond Merlot R Collection USA, California, Napa Valley
89 points
Had at wine tasting. Excellent value Merlot. Lush and balanced this value priced wine (under $15) provides lots of big fruit (cherries, blackberries and blueberries) along with supple tannins in this very tasty merlot.
Red
2003 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Right Bank USA, California, Napa Valley
95 points
Had at wine tasting. Best of the 12 wines I tasted. Very complex blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot in a very Bordeaux style. Big aromas of blackberry, espresso and smoke hint at the wine's complexity. The tannins are firm, but balanced and provide a mouthful of red fruit with a 50+ second finish. A big wine that will improve with age.
