Flight 1 - Corsica (mostly white) (4 notes)
Rosé
2010 Domaine de Marquiliani Corse Rosé Gris de Marquiliani
Pale salmon. Banana/melon tones. Light entry, some glycerine. Bright, tangy citrus with good acidity. Very fine, interesting rose. As I joked, the best (and only) Corsican rose I've ever had.
White
2010 Antoine Arena Patrimonio Carco Blanc
High toned and aromatic with a strong herbal component. Dry and zesty with wonderfully smooth texture through the mid-palate. Earthy finish. Very unique.
White
2010 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvée Collection Général de la Révolution
Dry, mouthfilling and expansive with deeply penetrating citrus. Great length. Like a great Alsatian Riesling with some Semillon sprinkled in for breadth and glycerine texture.
Red
2010 Domaine Comte Abbatucci Cuvée Collection "Ministre Imperial"
Medium color. Pine needles. Light to medium weight. Earthy, not much fruit, high acidity. Structured like an Italian red. Whereas the white was pretty astounding, I did not find much redeeming value in this, particularly at the lofty price for it.
Flight 2 - Jura (all red) (3 notes)
Red
2010 Jacques Puffeney Pinot Noir Arbois
Medium red. Strong scent of espresso. Lighter weight. Flavors of black cherry and then, long, earthy finish with excellent acidity. Pretty fascinating wine.
Red
2010 Michel Gahier Trousseau Arbois Les Grands Vergers
Pale. Gamy, licorice, smoky nose. I wish the palate were as interesting, but alas, it is light, tart and pretty much devoid of fruit or flesh.
Red
2009 Domaine Pignier Trousseau Côtes du Jura
Pale color. Medicinal black cherry fruit, good acidity. Earthy, austere finish. I preferred this to the Gahier Trousseau for its relative generosity.
Closing
What an interesting set of wines! In particular, this doubled my lifetime experience with Corsican whites, and I thought that the Abbatucci General had world class flavor interest, length and complexity.
