Introduction

Lineup of 21 wines mainly New World.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Rosé
2012 Domaine Houchart Côtes de Provence Rosé France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
Med rosé color with some more richness, strawberry, some cherry, sweet fruit, maybe a touch of RS; a crowd pleaser for sure.
White
2012 Morgan Chardonnay Metallico USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Good richness with some complimentary acid. Far from being dull, un-oaked Chard.
Red
2010 Whitehall Lane Tre Leoni Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
Very dark color with red rim; full and rich flavors reminiscent of Cabernet, but the pepper from the Syrah really comes out on the palate especially the finish; found myself enjoying several tastes of this.
Red
2010 Fisher Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Unity USA, California, Napa Valley
Very dark purple; large wine full of great dark fruit, I like the cassis, round on entry then good tannic structure on the finish; could get even better from some near-term cellaring.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Rosé
2012 Château Roustan Costières-de-Nîmes Rosé France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes
Paler rosé color; white winey on the nose, subtle and crisp on the palate, and some dried red fruit coming on the finish; surprisingly more Provençal than the Côtes de Provence.
White
2011 Hubert Veneau Pouilly-Fumé France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé
Citrus and gooseberries complemented with some prominent minerality that cuts the roof of the mouth- gotta love drinking young Pouilly Fumé.
Red
2010 Alexandria Nicole Quarry Butte Destiny Ridge Vineyards USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills
flawed
Corked. Sadly everyone else liked the other bottles so much they did not leave me any. I've really like this in the past.
Red
2007 McKenzie-Mueller Cabernet Franc USA, California, Napa Valley
Favorite wine from the tasting. So happy New World drinkers and Old World drinkers can both agree on this.

Flight 3 (4 notes)

White
2012 J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Gris California USA, California
I have to be honest, I was not expecting much from this, but the perfumed aromatics and sweet fruit made this a very enjoyable bottle. Would definitely order in a restaurant.
White
2011 Talbott Chardonnay Logan Sleepy Hollow Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Oaky yet leaner, more acidic profile than several Chards today.
Red
2010 Talbott Pinot Noir Logan Sleepy Hollow Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
Dark red color; very ripe profile with a little disjointed acidity; I think this bottle was off.
Red
2011 Honig Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
Very dark purple; big and rich nose, palate is broad shouldered and packed with dense cassis, cedar, and lots of tannin; too young but has the stuffing to do well with some cellaring.

Flight 4 (5 notes)

White
2011 Sivas-Sonoma Chardonnay USA, California, Sonoma County
More golden color; rich and oaky on the nose and palate, some butter; for as large as this is it still has some agility.
White
2009 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Light golden straw; nose has French oak that still needs to integrate, orchard fruit, some smoke; the palate is taut and crisp, large scaled but very Burgundian, great balance; need to get some and lay it down for a while.
Red
2011 The Seventy Five Wine Company Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California
Dark purple; round and soft Cabernet fruit, easier drinking crowd pleaser, decent QPR.
Red
2010 Ventisquero Carménère Single Block Grey [Glacier] Trinidad Vineyard Chile, Maipo Valley
Dark purple; good tart dark fruit to compliment the tobacco and green pepper notes; really unique in today's lineup.
Red
2004 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Lighter crimson, some bricking; ripe red fruits, almost overripe, followed by some dill, and vanilla; interesting but I would rather buy the 904 or the entry level.

Flight 5 (4 notes)

White
2011 Bodegas La Cana Albariño Spain, Galicia, Rías Baixas
Normally drink this very chilled, but tasted when it was room temp and the honeyed notes that developed were intoxicating along with the crisp acid; always a fan of this wine.
White
2011 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Big and voluptuous. Tasty especially if you like big oaky Chards, but I needed a touch more acid.
Red
2009 Renzo Masi Chianti Rùfina Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Rùfina
Darker color than you'd expect from Sangiovese but the dark cherry and smooth profile make this a solid QPR.
Red
2011 Viña Cobos Cabernet Sauvignon Felino Argentina, Mendoza
Showed well as always, good structure, possibly a little more time in bottle could help this a touch, people agreed this would command a much higher price if it came from CA.

Successful tasting.
