Flight 1 - Welcome Wines (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2004 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier d'Or France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
92 points
Powerful aromatics. Crisp with loads of energy and body. Long flavorful finish. Still young. Excellent.
White - Sparkling
1996 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
90 points
Round, sweet fruit in the mouth. Good counter balancing acidity. Still fresh and lively. Definitely new world profile in comparison to the 5 Champagnes in the line up.

Flight 2 - Champers (4 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée France, Champagne
94 points
Wow - complex nose with an exotic spice note. Palate is chock full of flavor and punch yet elegant. Long, robust finish. Amazing stuff.

2002 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne

Beautiful aromatic nose. Fresh and lively palate. Smooth with no hard edges. Still youthful.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Armand de Brignac Champagne Ace of Spades Brut Gold France, Champagne
Shy, clean nose. Dry mineral driven palate. Crushed rocks. Clipped finish. Too young?
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Armand de Brignac Champagne Ace of Spades Rosé France, Champagne
Shy, clean nose. More robust in body and flavor than the AoS blanc tasted side by side. Nice floral notes on the back end. Long finish.

Flight 3 - Leflaive Puligny (3 notes)

White
2007 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
95 points
Gorgeous and powerful aromas - complex mix of mineral, baked apples, peach and lemon zest. Precise palate with medium body and great verve. Long. Leaner and much more focused in comparison to the '09 Les Pucelles tasted side by side.
White
2009 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
96 points
Stunning stuff - gorgeous effusive nose with minerals, lemon-lime with a hint of candy apple. Round and medium-rich fruit on the palate with juicy underlying acidity. Crazy long. Slightly preferred the more rich '09 to the '07 Les Pucelles tasted side by side.
White
2009 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
93 points
Big showy nose of ripe apple and pear with citrus and mineral adding complexity. Palate has medium rich fruit, minerals and good cut providing balance. Long finish. Excellent in its own right but less pure and focused relative to the '09 Les Pucelles tasted side by side.

Flight 4 - '04 White Burgs (4 notes)

White
2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
91 points
Bright nose with mineral, crushed rock, lemon-lime. Racy and crisp palate. Lean citrus-driven fruit profile. Good acidity. Fruit seems very lean at this stage, in particular relative to the 04 Les Preuses tasted side by side.
White
2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
93 points
Terrific, layered aromas with mineral, stone fruit and citrus zest. Crisp and acid-driven. Medium rich stone fruit made complex with mineral notes. Long. More going on here than in the '04 Les Clos tasted side by side.
White
2004 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
95 points
Wow nose - huge layered aromas burst from the glass. Mineral, baked white fruits, honey, spice, go on and on. Rich and delicious in the mouth. With terrific balancing acidity. More ripe with a bigger "yum" factor than the Chevalier Montrachet tasted side by side - both were outstanding.
White
2004 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chevalier-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
95 points
Another wow, penetrating nose. In the mouth, an interesting contrast to the Batard Montrachet. This is equally as delicious and features a similar flavor profile but has more focus and precision. Splitting hairs, but I slightly prefer the richness of the Batard tasted side-by-side.

Flight 5 - Various Whites (4 notes)

White
2011 Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Consistent with many prior bottles - this is a delicious, rich and ripe sauv. Not the mostly complex or the most refined, but a new world lover cannot deny the melange of flavors, the interplay of rich fruit and cut and the long robust finish. Fun, if a little out of place with the Burgs and Champers.
White
1991 Long Vineyards Chardonnay USA, California, Napa Valley
Out of magnum, very much alive and kicking. Interesting, very mature fruit profile with some acid punch remaining.
White
2011 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
A shame that this was the 16th wine tasted at dinner. My note literally says "yum" in three different places! Huge nose is youthful and rich. Palate too is very young with primary fruit and loads of energy. Yet maintains focus and balance. Flavorful and complex/layered despite its young age. Long. Delicious. Mid 90s rating for sure.

2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted side by side with the 2011. Showed similarly, and nearly as youthful ... but the 2005 had more depth of flavor and better integration. Amazing stuff. Mid 90s rating if I was evaluating / rating the wine more closely.
