Introduction

Splitting hairs on a wine of the night. All wines showed extremely well.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2010 Joseph Phelps Chardonnay Freestone Vineyards Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
Excellent again with tropical fruit, wafer, minerals, spice and lemons. While oak is present it does not district the wine in any way and adds complexity. Should drink well for five plus years.
Red
2009 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Estate Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
93 points
Drinking really well with a one hour decant. Did not lose anything over the course of two plus hours. Should have a decade of enjoyment. Medium purple. Forest floor, cinnamon, strawberry and earth. After the first pour the second pour revealed some nice cranberry notes. Medium plus finish.

Red
1996 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Wonderful nose of funk, coffee beans, earth and leather. The palate features more of the same but is not as enjoyable as the nose which if it were the case this would be a 95 plus point wine. The second glass offered raspberries on the palate. Medium plus finish.
Red
1998 Château Smith Haut Lafitte France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
93 points
Darker in color than the 96 Leoville and more robust. Chestnuts, dark fruits, tobacco and wood. Medium plus finish and really young. Should drink well through 2020. Decant 4 plus hours.
Red
2006 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
93 points
Decanted about 2 hours. Later in the day is when this opened up so a long life ahead. Bing cherries, spice, floral, tobacco and oak. Long finish and very enjoyable.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2001 Château Petit Védrines France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
Drinking really well right now with apricots, ripe peaches and minerality. Balanced overall with nice acidity. Drink now.
