Grands Jours de Bourgogne 2014 Day 1: Chablis 3-17-13
Tasted June 7, 2014 by Gargantua with 944 views
Introduction
The tasting date was actually 3/17/13, but I'm not going to battle the CT interface for all these damn notes. It's already tedious enough assigning them flights each one by one--don't want to have to back date as well. This is truth be told my only complaint with CT; other than this, it's a gift from god. Sick at home with the flu; tired of wishing I had access to my notes at work: here we are.
Flight 1 (73 notes)
Red
2012 Domaine Colinot Irancy Les Cailles
More gourmand than the 2011 Mazelots; acid jam, black fruit; super tangy, not bad! 100% Pinot.
Red
2012 Domaine Colinot Irancy Palotte
Some Cesar. Nose a bit diaper-y but lots of pleasant jam behind that; nice. Palate strikes a tangy balance.
White
2012 La Chablisienne Chablis Les Vénérables Vieilles Vignes
Nose of lager, peanut, styrofoam a bit. Big meh.
White
2012 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet
Nose is intensely mineral; palate has big acid but somehow feels disjoint?
White
2010 La Chablisienne Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles Château Grenouilles
The elusive tiniest grand cru. Nose is pretty, new oak? Palate feels oxidative? Not a great showing for these wines today.
White
2011 Domaine Laroche Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaudevey
Nose is lovely! Palate feels dilute but then acid; a little shells, clean. Clay terroir; 1hr less sun than elsewhere.
White
2011 Domaine Laroche Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes
Palate of pretty clean cotton laundry (my apologies for this intensely personal descriptor...) then feels dilute.
White
2010 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot
Nose is pretty; palate surprisingly nice! Mineral, acid! 9/10!
White
2010 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
A freakish noisy Belgian next to me was putting the pourer through the ringer insisting this was "pommadé". Unclear if it's power of suggestion, but I supposed I did find the nose a tiny bit soapy, palate felt acid yet thin a bit? Nose gets to that lager-like place I despise.
White
2013 Clotilde Davenne Chablis
This was so laden with what felt like pyrazines that you'd've had to proven to me via mass spec that this wasn't sauvignon blanc. Did she mix some in by accident? That peanutty SB character, mecchh. Perhaps just reduction, but boy was it showing poorly today for me.
White
2012 Clotilde Davenne Chablis 1er Cru Montmains
13.5. Nose thankfully better than the village Chablis, palate acidic and pretty good, not for me though.
White
2012 Clotilde Davenne Chablis Grand Cru Bougros
Nose closed? Palate shows paprika and asphalt--nice! Only good showing today for me.
White
2012 Caves Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
Nose cidery; palate has some fun wood spice--should be nice
White
2012 Caves Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons
Nose has cider and latex, palate shows a delicate power; not yet in bottle. Of his parcels, Vaillons typically gives up the goods soonest.
White
2011 Caves Duplessis Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
flawed
Corked a bit? Celery and pyrazines? Weird. Prob 2011 greenies.
White
2011 Caves Duplessis Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
As with 2011 MdT, more pyrazines and green? more celery and asphalt? 2011 is not up to par. Duplessis' 2010s were stellar and 2012 shows promise but here....ouch
White
2012 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montmains
Nose has beer alongside pretty mineral; palate has a dilute attack but finishes with admirable subtle acid, not bad at all!
White
2012 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
Nose is very B vitamin; palate similar to Montmains dilute attack but finishes with admirable subtle acid, however this felt less exciting at this young point. Meh?
White
2011 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir
Nose is big, pretty, and brawny; palate has peanut and pyrazines; acid is here but....not bad.
White
2011 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles
Similar profile to Vaudésir; palate has peanut and pyrazines; acid is here but....not bad. Would hope for more.
White
2012 Lionel Bussy Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet
Nose is cider-y; palate almost as high acid as Vaillons 2012 but pretty meh.
White
2011 Domaine Servin Chablis 1er Cru Les Forêts
Woody and green as is typical of so many 2011s; Mark Cameron was apologetic and hypothesized that it was early bottling that created the green character of so many 2011s. Nice acid, though. If you were in the mood for an SB this'd do the trick I suppose.
White
2011 Domaine Servin Chablis Cuvée Massale Vieilles Vignes
And perhaps Mark Cameron is right RE late bottling staving off greenness; here, there is no green, nice sweetness, bottled later, these are 55-60 yo vines.
White
2006 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
Slight heat characteristic of crummy 06 whites, tactile on the nose, toffee a bit on palate as this succumbs to oxygen....
White
White
2012 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Nose is like a delicious apple liqueur, palate is just apple time. Great wine.
White
2010 Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons
Nose is toffee oxidative; palate acid. Should be younger, it's bloody 2010
White
2009 Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Vieilles Vignes
Nose scarred by reduction and or sulphur. Very weird indeed, today, these wines.
White
2013 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis
Nose is peanut and lager. Palate is just okay. Meh. Bottled 3 days ago.
White
2012 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
Nose is pretty and clean cotton laundry. Palate is watery and peanutty a bit.
White
2012 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu
15% new oak. Nose is nutty, a bit of green but fresh and nice. Palate is slightly round on the attack with honey, big acid!
White
2012 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent
I have noted only: "Nice". Not too helpful; I know.
White
2011 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent
Tiny bit of green on the palate, not bad!
White
2011 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
Very nice honeyed midpalate with some green hints from the vintage.
White
2009 Domaine Nathalie et Gilles Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses
Very nice, best showing today--still fresh in spite of some brown ox, good acid and weight, shells!
White
2012 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis 1er Cru Montmains
Nose is just intriguing; mint? Wow: unique. I will seek this out. Couldn't forget this, of all wines tasted this day.
White
2012 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis 1er Cru La Forêt
Jane's favorite. Nose is lemon; palate has a honeyed attack; a rich, spicy, loud wine.
White
2012 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume
Less impressive and more linear than other 1er crus tasted today
White
2012 Jean-Claude Bessin Chablis Grand Cru Valmur
Nose is tight, palate is tight, but some honey and good acid and balance
White
2011 Alain Gautheron Chablis Cuveé Émeraude
Agriculture BIO. Nose has a very slight green, palate is green.
White
2002 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet
Disclaimer: I tend to prefer younger, less browning wines. Nose has toffee and latex, palate is acid and dilute. I can't get into this; too brown.
White
2003 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys
What is this strange 1er cru?! This is not bad, and surprises me vs 03 heat expectations! Nose has that crazy saline aroma I associate with sweaty woman's armpits, palate is saline and acid, this is not bad!

White
2009 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis Vieilles Vignes du Vieux Chateau
My favorite of the Defaix wines tasted today--this is most accommodating to my palate
White
2012 Domaine Oudin Chablis
Nice! Balance of acid, sweetness, and minerality; aroma takes me to that place that evokes clean cotton laundry
White
2011 Domaine Oudin Chablis Les Serres
Finally, a pleasant 2011! This is a selection of parcels done in Inox. Pretty with a nice balance.

2012 Domaine Oudin Chablis 1er Cru Vaucoupins
Nose gets lemon floor cleaner a touch? Thyme! High acid. Obv need time to judge this one.
White
2012 Domaine de Pisse-Loup Chablis
High acid, machine harvest. Same quality as Petit Chablis; acid, fresh, and clean. Some may find the acid troubling...I like it.
White
2012 Francine et Olivier Savary Chablis
So reductive is was like being behind someone's ass. No way to assess this--I'm no proctologist.
White
2010 Francine et Olivier Savary Chablis Sélection Vieilles Vignes
Not bad, but a dilute midpalate for now
White
2012 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Vieilles Vignes
Nose has big time asphalt, palate is nice if a bit hollow on the midpalate, but nevertheless finishes well. Needs time.
White
2012 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Montmains
Nose is calm, palate is acid and pointed; some shells, 8.5-9/10

2012 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre
Nose is a mineral wow; palate has a dilute attack, good acid, slight limestone shell character. Mme. Laudet's fave.

Nose of clean cotton laundry, really nice acid. 9/10
White
2011 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Nose is B vitamin a bit, closed otherwise; palate is asphalt and mineral. 9/10
