Flight 1 - Warm ups (6 notes)

The Collin was tasted nonblind.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Domaine Collin Crémant de Limoux Brut France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Crémant de Limoux
88 points
Tasted nonblind before the warm ups. Very pleasant. Orchard fruit and wet stone qualities on the bouquet and palate. Good weight and acidity as well, with a strong finish.
White
2012 Gamble Family Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Gamble Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley, Yountville
Pale color. Notes of citrus and grass with subtle floral undertones. The palate follows the bouquet; good bit of acid. Guessed Sauv Blanc.
Rosé
2013 Blue Rock Cabernet Franc Baby Blue USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
89 points
So this is a rose? Dark color- looks like a Pinot. Has a very forward and pretty bouquet of cherries,, spice and macerated strawberry. The fruit is very bright. Develops notes of blue fruit and mulberries, with plenty of pepper and spice on the finish. Very unique and enjoyable, at first I thought perhaps Merlot but moved to Zin but I truly had no idea. I don't know how Rick picked this out as Cab Franc.
White
2006 Château la Hargue Blanc France, Bordeaux
88 points
Smoke, toast, citrus and apple notes with a touch of sulphur. The acid stands out on the finish and the sulphur becomes more pronounced.
White
2012 Weingut Markus Huber Grüner Veltliner Reserve Alte Setzen Austria, Niederösterreich, Traisental
89 points
Notes of florals, peach pit, clay and mineral. Has a rich texture but plenty of underlying acid. Flavors of orchard fruit and florals. Guessed Rhone blend.
White
2012 Starr Ranch Viognier Estate USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
88 points
Very floral, more so than #4- peach blossoms, hand soaps, pear and lemon. Apple qualities on the palate with floral overtones. Guessed Viognier.

Flight 2 - Reds (5 notes)

Red
2009 WesMar Pinot Noir Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Notes of cherry, nutmeg and baking spices. Very pretty cherry fruit on the palate with a subtle mineral streak in the finish. Hints of cola as it sat in the glass. Guessed 2008 RRV Pinot.
Red
2009 Miner Family Sangiovese Gibson Ranch USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County
85 points
Opens with earthy green qualities followed by red cherry notes but faded and tired. Red fruit, spice and vanilla flavors with spice notes dominating the finish. Guessed older Rhone/CdP blend.
Red
2004 Claude Dugat Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
90 points
Notes of red fruit, forest floor, iodine and roasted herbs and eventually a cherry note emerges. Earth, iron and red fruit turning to white currants and sour cherries. Medium-bodied and nicely integrated.

Picked out as our Burg. This had been quickly double decanted off its sediment before leaving for the tasting, approximately 1.5 hrs before the flight was poured. Based on this bottle, I would say drink over the very near term if you are still holding these, unless you have a very cold cellar.
Red
2007 Ehret Family Winery Bella's Blend USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley
89 points
Deep color with notes of dark fruit and perfumed florals. Medium tannins and quiet a bit of acid too. Flavors of oak spices, dark fruit and red berries, with a slightly chalky feel to the finish. I liked this but had no guess as to what it was.
Red
2004 Roger Sabon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
flawed
Initially this is a bit strange and funky and herbal with a subtle clay note too. Sour red and dark fruit, quite acidic and hollow on the palate. Develops a bouillon cube note then something very manufactured/chemically, almost like petroleum jelly. Clearly a flawed bottle.

Flight 3 - Reds (5 notes)

Red
2006 William Hill Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Atlas Peak USA, California, Napa Valley, Atlas Peak
84 points
Crimson color. Aromas of dark fruit with a candied cherry note as well. Dark fruit flavors dominate the palate but as this sits the tannins and acid dominate the fruit. This is a bit out of sorts with itself. Guessed CA Cab Sauv.
Red
2009 Owen Roe Cabernet Sauvignon Yakima Valley USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley
88 points
Currant and plum notes but also hot, showing quite a bit of alcohol. Black fruit and firm tannins with a fair amount of underlying acidity. The best wine in the flight, though that is damning with faint praise. No guess.
Red
2006 Château Les Grands Maréchaux France, Bordeaux, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux
flawed
Although slight, there was a definite streak of TCA here.
Red
2005 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
flawed
Stewed dark fruit and cooked tomato paste on the nose. One sip is all one needs to know not to drink any more of this. Sour and acidic. Must have been improperly stored at some point.
Red
2001 De Martino Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Familia Chile, Maipo Valley
80 points
Aromas of bouillon cube, plum and spice. Medium-bodied with firm tannins and a lot of acid with little fruit. Others liked this, but I don't see how that was possible.

I was shocked when this was unveiled. When we pulled the cork it displayed dark and red fruit, earth and dried herbs. It sat in open bottle for roughly two hours before the flight was poured, so I would recommend a pop & pour if you have any.

Flight 4 - Reds (4 notes)

Red
2006 Ravenswood Pickberry USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain
Aromas of dark fruit, black cherry and currants with a perfumed overtone. Firm tannins but there's a lot of fruit too- red berries and cherry. Develops a pleasant earthy tone. Guessed young Bordeaux.

Red
2009 Brown Estate Zinfandel USA, California, Napa Valley
flawed
Corked.
Red
2007 Detert Family Vineyards Cabernet Franc Oakville USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville
90 points
Notes of candied black raspberry and dark fruit. Black fruit on the palate- reminds me of a Biale. Nice balance and fruit, finishing with good length. Guessed Zinfandel.
Red
2007 SIKA Cabernet Franc Forgotten Barrel USA, California, Napa Valley
Pine needle and red fruit aromas. Firm tannins with flavors of red fruit, turning sour on the finish. Guessed Zinfandel again.

Flight 5 - Dinner/dessert wines (nonblind) (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2002 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
89 points
Notes of coconut and tropical fruit with a nice bit of botrytis spice too. Tropical fruit and quince on the palate with a medium finish.
