Flight 1 - Something to sip while we waited for everyone to arrive. (1 note)

White
2005 Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Lots of green apple. This is somewhat sweet for a kabinett. Holding well, but won't get better from here. Nice.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

I didn't take real notes on this flight or take an official vote, but I think the overall preference was for the Iron Horse.

White - Sparkling
2009 Iron Horse Vineyards Fairy Tale Cuvée USA, California, Sonoma County, Green Valley of Russian River Valley
Fairly austere and classic. Edged out the softer Dom Carneros.
White - Sparkling
2006 Domaine Carneros Brut Late Disgorged USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
Very good fruit forward sparkler. A bit soft.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2010 Tallulah Cabernet Sauvignon MD2 USA, California, Napa Valley
Big with dark fruit. Dark acid, hot, long. Some blueberry, tar, burnt oak. Very good.
B+/A-
Red
2009 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, North Coast, Napa / Sonoma
Dark profile with black olive. Solid, muscular fruit with a bit of a juicy core, just a little bit sweet.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
1995 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Mineral, black olive, a little band aid. Aged, near mature but still hard and stiff. Restrained, solid. Not yet ready to drink, not sure if/when this is going to turn around.
B/B+
Red
2009 Jordan Vineyard & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
High toned acid, narrow but sweetish fruit. Concentrated coffee core. Lacks fullness, roundness.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2005 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
Well balanced, good full round fruit. Just a little big. A well made, crowd pleasing wine that was just a little bit new world for my taste. Very good, just a little too soft. Well liked around the table and the group's WOTN. My second favorite.
A-
Red
2011 Château Aney France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Dry, fine tannins and a little acidic. Black olive. Clipped and a bit disjointed.

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
2012 Textbook Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
A bit sweet, some blueberry. Bright, sappy, pure with full throttle fruit. Too big for my taste.

Red
1996 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Wonderful. At a really good age, in its early maturity window. Balanced, complex with herb, menthol, dried flower. At the same time powerful and delicate. My WOTN. Exactly what I look for in Bordeaux. Another great 1996.
