Introduction

Overall a nice tasting.

Flight 1 - The whites: (4 notes)

White
2013 Domaine Matrot Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Bright nose of tonic water, lemon, citrus. Lots of acid, some pear, apple, citrus, light bodied and crisp. A little cream and nutty note on the finish. Pleasant. 86-87
White
2012 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Citrus, apple, medium bodied, some mineral and salinity. A little butterscotch and cream on the finish which I didn't like at first, but this wine grew on me. 90
White
2012 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Narvaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Richer and more oaky than the Matrot Bourgogne. Creamy, tart apple and pear, good acid. A hint of spearmint and slight salinity. Long finish. Ann said it was to oaky for her, but I enjoyed it, despite the fact that I typically don't enjoy this richer, more oaky style. 89-90
White
2012 Francois Carillon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
A nice blast of mineral on the nose. Strangely, Ann said it reminded her of skunk at first but that she didn't mean it in a bad way. Tart fruit, both apple and citrus again, nice salinity, good acid, medium bodied. Complex with good intensity. Very good. 91

Flight 2 - The reds: (8 notes)

Red
2012 Mongeard-Mugneret Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Fruity nose suggesting dark berries and spice. Tart, yet candied fruit, slightly earthy, fruity with spicy accents. Fine tannin. Pleasant but seemed confected. 86
Red
2012 Domaine Vincent and Sophie Morey Santenay Les Hâtes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay
Floral (Ann said Lilac) and earthy nose. Tart fruit, fine tannin, cherries, elegant, very light oak. I liked this and thought it was a good value. 89
Red
2012 Domaine Matrot Maranges Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges
Dark fruit than the Morey Les Hates. Fruity with slight earthy, mineral notes. A little simple but tasty. 87-88
Red
2012 Domaine Matrot Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Créot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Darker color with slight orange bricking on the edges. Spice and red fruits on the nose, less structured, soft red fruits on the palate. Simple and easy drinking. 88
Red
2012 Mongeard-Mugneret Fixin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin
Darker and richer than the Matrot St. Aubin En Creots. Some earthy notes, structured, fruity, spice and a little alc on the nose. Cherry fruit, some mineral. More structured by not more complex. 88
Red
2012 Mongeard-Mugneret Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Nice fruit, spice, oak? A step up from the last couple wines, this is tasty with silky cherry fruit and some floral notes. Nice 89-90
Red
2012 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Earthy, barnyard, rubber on the nose which I don't prefer. Dark in color. Earthy dark fruit on the palate. Funky. I don't really appreciate this style. I would be interested in trying this 15 years though.
Red
2011 Thibault Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Dark color. Minerals on the nose, with hints of licorice. On the palate, the wine is dark fruited and silky with spice and slight anise. Elegant and delicious. 92-93

Closing

The more I have, the more I am finding I like the wines from Francois Carillon. The Liger-Belair Les St Georges was really nice and the Morey Santenay Les Hates offers good value.
