Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
2011 Château La Croix Romane France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lalande de Pomerol
Darker semi-translucent core with larger dull garnet rim; chocolate, dark cherries, vanilla, floral, mint, polished, clay; polished palate, deep red and dark fruit, cedar, fleshy but good structure; very good, why am I liking so many 2011s? If I listened to the "experts" wines like this should be swill...
Red
2009 Prats and Symington Douro Prazo de Roriz Portugal, Douro
Similar color to the previous young Bordeaux; nose of musky cherry, leather, some dried fruit, iron, cooked fruit, red currant; sun dried tomato, wild berry, tart fruit, chocolate, tannin, only hints at leather on the palate; ok, grew on me the more I drank.
Red
2011 Omina Romana Lazio Italy, Latium, Lazio
Dark fruit with reddish rim; tart fruit, slight prune, open knit, starchy?; sweet palate, residual sugar, prune, some tannin, very sweet, interesting sun baked Amarone-esque quality without the alcohol; not a fan.
Red
2007 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Langhe Nebbiolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Chocolate core with brownish crimson edge and orange rim; some soy, brown backing spice, sour cherry and strawberry, fennel, seems like Sangiovese on nose; fuller palate, good nobility, ripe and raisiny; ok.
White
2012 Clos Guirouilh Jurançon Sec France, Southwest France, Jurançon Sec
Straw amber, pale rim; straw, bitter almond, pear, green apple, mint, natural spice; sharp acid, nice fullness, envelops the palate, white flower, sweet fruit, fuller body, saliva inducing finishes very dry; very interesting and delicious; mine, most were in N. Italian whites.
Red
2006 Terralsole Rosso di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino
Semi-translucent, dark crimson with lighter crimson rim and orange hues; nutty, orange peel, sour cherry, dusty, sweet wood, salami, almost cinnamon; shorter tannic pull, at peak, still a firmness with a soft and sexy middle; good.
Red
2008 Campo Viejo Rioja Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
Some clarity, dull purple core with paler rim; dill, vanilla, box of Crayons (exactly!), pencil shavings, oak masks the fruit; smooth texture, fine tannin, berry, purple fruit, vanilla; a good wine underneath all of the American oak, would like to see with more time.

Closing

A varied tasting where no region was repeated.
I was in the mood for white, so I give my Jurancon Sec 1st, the Bordeaux 2nd, and the Terralsole 3rd.
