Introduction

A mixed bag of wines from around the world.

Flight 1 (13 notes)

White
2010 Beringer Vineyards Chardonnay Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
90 points
Oak, spices, lemon and minerals. Medium finish. The oak is not fully integrated and this wine should go a few more years. Drink now to 2017.
Red
2011 The Four Graces Pinot Noir Black Family Estate USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
83 points
Very light in color and body. Cranberry, earth and subtle spices. Thin on the palate and short finish. For the price a pass.
Red
2008 Argyle Pinot Noir Nuthouse Eola - Amity Hills USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
90 points
Strawberries, spices, minerals and blueberries. Nice combination of fruit and secondary character. Medium finish. Drink now.
Red
2008 J Vineyards & Winery Pinot Noir Robert Thomas Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
85 points
Overripe offering with Carmel, spices and wafer. Not real balanced but drinkable. Too expensive for the quality.
Red
2005 Bodegas y Viñedos de la Marquesa Rioja Valserrano Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
87 points
Young and needs some time. Oak dominated and tannic. Some fruit is trying to emerge but maybe in five years one would revisit this wine.
Red
2003 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
Funk, leather and earth. Chewy tannins and a little herbal on the finish. In a good spot right now but could age a few more years.
Red
2001 Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy Barbaresco Martinenga Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
89 points
Dried fruits, perfume and spices. Medium finish and on its last leg. Does not have the concentration and tannins to go another five years.
Red
2001 Marziano Abbona Barolo Pressenda Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Wood, red fruits, forest floor and earth. Medium plus finish. Should age a few more years.
Red
2012 Bodega Norton Malbec Reserva Argentina, Mendoza, Lujan de Cuyo
87 points
Very ripe and bold. Floral, blackberries and plums. Big wine.
Red
2006 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Calistoga USA, California, Napa Valley, Calistoga
92 points
My second favorite wine of the night. Spices, jam, coffee and floral notes. Complex and long finish. Should age another five to ten years. Solid wine.
Red
2006 Rosenblum Cellars Syrah Reserve Kick Ranch USA, California, Sonoma County
93 points
Last bottle and showed really well. My wine of the night. Dark in color and amazing balance to this wine. Blueberries, spices, cherries and earth. Medium plus finish and great concentration. One of the best under $25 wines I have ever purchased.
Red
2003 Long Shadows Wineries Syrah Sequel USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
91 points
Not showing as well as previous bottles. Light fruits, spices and minerals. Will revisit on day 2 to see if there is any improvement.

Day 2 review. More concentrated and showing darker fruits such as blueberries, black cherries and blackberries. Medium plus finish and balanced. Exotic spices on the finish. Hold for a few years or heavy decant. 91 plus
Red
2008 Pride Mountain Vineyards Syrah USA, California, Sonoma County
86 points
This is not doing anything to help me like pride. Spices, medicinal and earth. While some Rhone characters appear there it lacks structure.
