Introduction

We knew the theme, but all wines were tasted blind.

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Devaux Champagne Cuvée D Brut France, Champagne
88 points
The bottle I tasted was bottled in 2006. The bouquet was quite mature with ripe apples and some caramel. Same on the palate. Minerals and some bitterness. A pleasant and mature bubble.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White
2010 Wyndomein De Heidepleats Donia Grande Vespers Netherlands, Friesland
79 points
Yoghurt and some citrus in the bouquet. On the palate tart green apple and grapefruit. Also pineapple and asparagus. Firm bitterness in the not really pleasant finish.
White
2011 Wijngaard De Kroon van Texel Riesel Netherlands, Noord-Holland, Texel
80 points
Bouquet with grapes, muscatel and green apples. Same on the palate. Flowers and a touch of sweetness as well. Not really impressive, but an ok wine.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1990 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
92 points
Brick color with an orange rim. Mature bouquet with a lot of acidic impressions. On the palate however a complex wine with a lot of garrigue, a touch of barnyard and still very juicy red forest fruits and cherries. There is some sweetness and white pepper, a firm amount of acidity and completely integrated tannin. A mature and complex wine in which the Mourvedre is evident. Fully mature now. Drink within a few years.

1992 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
89 points
Beautiful bouquet with a touch of barnyard, sweet spices and garrigue. On the palate still some raspberry, but on the other hand quite mature. Mild acidity and tannin and quite much bitterness in the finish. The tannin still has some bite in the finish. Overall a nice wine with still some future, but I wouldn't wait much longer.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
1993 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
90 points
In the bouquet licorice and white pepper. On the palate a friendly wine with ripe forest fruits, some strawberry and also rose hips and truffle. Good acidity and round tannin. Really nice to drink now.
Red
1994 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
91 points
Bouquet with a lot of garrigue. White pepper as well. On the palate a touch of sweetness. Beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity. The tannin is fully integrated and still offering a pleasant bite. Really nice and mature wine.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

1995 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
92 points
The bouquet is rustic and almost still a bit reticent. Ripe fruits, good acidity, some pleasant sweetness and still firm tannin. Good complexity. I scored this wine 92, because it is so complete and - with some air- in a beautiful drinking stage now. Drink this between now and 2016; it is lovely!

1996 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
87 points
A bit bretty in the bouquet, cherries, garrigue. Ok balance between acidity and sweetness. No more notes, except that it was the least attractive Coudoulet of the evening.

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
2007 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de Beaucastel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
89 points
Not so many notes. The bouquet is toasty and jammy with impressions of a spiced tea-bag. On the palate ripe red and black fruits, a lot of sweetness and pleasant acidity. Will probably improve with a few more years of ageing.

A beautiful wine with chocolate and coffee in the bouquet. On the palate a concentrated wine, very juicy and soft tannin. Good balance between sweetness and acidity. A bit a-typical, because it hardly shows garrigue. Ready now and the next 3 - 5+ years.
