Flight 1 (11 notes)

Red
2009 Quady North Cabernet Franc USA, Oregon, Southern Oregon, Applegate Valley
89 points
Bouquet with cherries, red berry fruits, spices and earth. Same on the palate, a touch of sweetness balanced by good acidity and mild tannin. Some vanilla as well. Very nice wine. Early maturity now.
Red
2001 Domaine Santa Duc Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
93 points
Red fruits, earth, spiciness, leather, wet forest and a touch of barnyard in the bouquet. Same on the palate. Cherries and dark forest fruits, garrigue, vanilla, almonds, licorice, chocolate, beautiful fresh acidity and soft tannin with still a nice bite. Beautiful wine that never disappoints. Ready now and still a few years ahead.

Red
2010 Domaine des Ouleb Thaleb Syrah Tandem Morocco, Rabat/Casablanca, Zenata
85 points
Transparent red. Pnp the bouquet is a bit locked. On the palate red fruits and some sweet spices, quite much acidity and also sweetness. Ok, easy drinking wine without much complexity.
Red
2005 Chateau Musar Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
90 points
Intense bouquet with dark berry fruits, leather and autumn impressions. On the palate almost overripe mainly red berry fruits, herbs and sweet spices like vanilla etc., chocolate, licorice, juicy acidity and also some sweetness. The tannin is a bit drying. The wine seems to be ready now and with the overripe fruit impressions I don’t really know if this wine is suitable for long keeping. But with Musar you never know. Would like to try again 5 years from now.

Red
2010 El Sequé Monastrell Alicante Spain, Valencia, Alicante
89 points
Extremely youthful bouquet with cherry yoghurt and blackberries. Same on the palate. Ripe red berry fruits as well, a firm amount of acidity and alcohol, mild tannin. I really would like to taste this wine around 2017 again. Possibly it is even more beautiful. 89+

Clear transparent red. Some eucalyptus and spiciness in the bouquet. On the palate red fruits, spices like white pepper, juicy acidity. A bit candy like. Also impressions of metal.
Red
2012 Heartland Dolcetto/Lagrein Australia, South Australia
86 points
Cherry yoghurt in the bouquet and on the palate. Menthol, a lot of sweetness, acidity and oak. All very round. The tannin has some bite. Crowd pleaser.
Red
2011 Quinta do Passadouro Touriga Nacional Douro Portugal, Douro
88 points
The bouquet is loaded with cherries, red berry fruits and a good dose of oak. Same on the palate. Also licorice, good fresh acidity and tannin with a firm bite. This wine is much too young. Wait until at least 2018. For now 88+
Red
2007 Trapiche Malbec Single Vineyard Viña Adolfo Ahumada Villa Bastias Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Tupungato
90 points
See also my note from 2011. The wine has developed a bit and is more beautiful now. Still a lot of fruits and spiciness as well as oaky flavors. A mouth full of jammy wine. Will still improve with a few more years of ageing. 90+
Red
2008 Kanonkop Pinotage South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch
89 points
Bouquet with chocolate, spices, medicines and some barnyard. On the palate a mature wine with red berries, chocolate, vanilla and some coffee. Beautiful acidity and round tannin. Elegant and beautiful wine.
Red
2003 Germano Angelo Barolo Mondoca Dardi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
In the bouquet very ripe red forest fruits. On the palate strawberries, chocolate, a firm amount of sweetness, but also lovely acidity. Soft tannin. A tempting and mature, delicious wine.
