Quatuor inédit en Côte de Beaune - Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne

Tonnellerie Damy - Meursault

Tasted March 25, 2016 by Burgundy Al with 654 views

Introduction

Meursault and Volnay with some Auxey-Duresses and Monthélie as well. I doubt I tasted 20% of the wines shown, and realized afterward I missed several producers whose wines I wish I had tried.

Flight 1 (49 notes)

White
2014 Yves Boyer-Martenot Meursault Les Narvaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Apple with some lemon peel and a touch of ginger and lemongrass. Good young, good for its level.
White
2014 Yves Boyer-Martenot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe apple and pear with a true nutty note, good spice and solid concentration. Good+ for its level.
White
2014 Yves Boyer-Martenot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe stone fruit and orchard fruit that starts with good power, not as finessed and energetic as the best Perrieres. Good for its level.
White
2014 Buisson-Charles Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Ripe and alluring aromas followed by ripe apple and peach flavors. Great Villages level wine.
White
2014 Buisson-Charles Meursault Les Tessons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Apple and spice on nose and palate. Weighty and dense, also very impressive for its level.

White
2014 Buisson-Charles Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Late summer flowers with ripe apple and apple pie spice aromas. Similar flavors, but more restrained with less emphasis on the sweet notes. Very long. VG+ for its level.
White
2014 Buisson-Charles Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Rich while sturdy. Apple and apricot. Well textured. Less exciting than the Meursaults, but this is not domaine owned property. Good+ for its level.
White
2014 Buisson-Charles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Fat fruit to start on nose and palate, finishing with mineral-driven textures. Moderate length and power. Also not quite as exciting as the Meursault cuvees, this is also not domaine owned property. Good+ for its level.
Red
2013 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots-Du-Milieu France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Rich red fruit with sweet spice, floral hints. Moderate concentration and structure, this will be VG for medium-term.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune
Tasting, brief note. Good lemon start-to-near-finish, but ends with a bitter note I didn't enjoy.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Apple aromas and flavors with some lemon on palate. Seems a bit rugged on finish. Good enough for its price.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. A big step up vs the straight Bourgogne, this has more apple and lemon with very good concentration with spice hints. VG for its level.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Monthélie Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie
Tasting, brief note. Ilike the aromas showing rich fruit that come across as more auster on palate, but with good density. Good for its level.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Auxey-Duresses Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses
Tasting, brief note. A small step up from the Monthélie, again with more appealing aromas than flavors and slightly auster at the end. Good for its level.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Apple, lemon and floral on nose and palate. A Villages that needs another year or two in the cellar. Starts broad and powerful, finishes nicely firm, with just an awkward transition in the middle for now. I think this will have VG 89-90 point potential from 2018 forward.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Meix Sous le Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Bright apple, medium weight, moderate length. I prefer the straight Meursault AC.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Les Gruyaches France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. A big step up from the Meix Sous la Château. Apple and pear with greater density and length. Firm finish with good finesse. 90-91 point potential here, just cellar this a year or three.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Les Chevalières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. More forward and alluring fruit vs Gruyaches with spice and floral notes. Also good energy, just less concentration. Different vs Gruyaches, I'm not sure which I prefer. Also VG+ for its level.
White
2013 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Le Tesson France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Floral start with Meyer lemon and ripe apple. Textures galore with a very long finish. Also VG+ for its level, this is the star of today's lineup.
White
2014 Domaine Patrick Javillier Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Oligocène France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Floral, elegant start. Apple throughout, lemon as well on finish. Good length. VG for its level.
White
2014 Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Les Tillets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Floral start with Meyer lemon and ripe apple aromas. Ripe fruit flavors but slightly backward at the same time. Long finish, albeit firm. VG overall, 2020 forward.

White
2014 Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Tête de Murgers Cuvée France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Peach and spice on nose and palate with moderate depth and length. I slightly preferred Tillets.
White
2014 Domaine François Mikulski Chardonnay Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Tasting, brief note. Fresh and fun for near-term pleasure. Good Bourgogne.
White
2014 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Tasting, brief note. Rich and forward fruit-driven start showing apple and tropical hints. Firms up near finish. Good young, better in another 2-5 years. I really like this wine from the 2009 vintage right now, and can see this 2014 evolving similarly.
White
2014 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe fruit with floral, toasted nuts and spice support provide an overall great nose. More restrained palate with plenty of acidity, less perceived minerality. VG potential, but cellar at least 5 years.
White
2014 Domaine François Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Apple start-to-finish, very bright, minerally and textured - textbook Genevrières for me. Very long finish, somewhat firm. VG for its level. Needs time.
Red
2014 Domaine Jacques Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Fruit driven with red and black cherry, modest spice, moderate depth. Good+ for its level for the medium-term.
Red
2014 Domaine Jacques Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Champans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Similar fruit profile to Santenots, but less overall balance. Starts sweeter, finishes firmer. Needs more time. Good enough for its level.
White
2014 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting, brief note. Stone fruit with spring flowers and subtle spice. Fat fruit is fun and forward right now with rounded textures. VG+ for its level for the near-term.
White
2014 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Fresh and sweet orchard fruit aromas and flavors with bright energy and minerality i enjoy. A step up from the Puligny AC.
White
2014 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Fresh apple and lemon, less forward ripeness here. Moderate depth, good energy and length. Good+ for its level.
White
2014 Domaine de Montille Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Large apple aromas and flavors with textures in harmony. Very good balance already today. Moderate depth and length, this will drink very nicely young, with the stuffing to cellar as well.
Red
2014 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Charming red and black fruit aromas, more restrained flavors. Good spice. Simple start, more interesting, well textured finish. Good+ for medium-term.
Red
2014 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Champans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very reduced aromas now. Red cherry flavors with good length. Seems good+ for its level, but reduction is in the way right now.
Red
2007 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. From magnum that hadn't been open long. Reductive start made this challenging, but there is fleshy berry flavors with very good concentration. Spice gets past the reduction on finish.
Red
2014 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Tasting, brief note. Still in barrel. Red cherry aromas with both red and black cherry flavors. FRuit-driven start with subtle textures. A good Lafarge to drink on the younger side. Good+ for its level.
Red
2014 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also in barrel. Floral and spice start with very ripe red berry and cherry aromas. Red and black fruit array on palate with intense textures, great spice on finish. Patience will be rewarded with 93-94 point potential, 2025 forward.
Red
2014 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bottled 2 weeks ago. Fat, lush fruit-driven start with black and blue berries. Gets rather firm by the finish, making it seem slightly awkward right now, but with good raw materials and most likely also good potential for its level.
Red
2014 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Bousse d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bottled 2 weeks ago. Bigger and denser fruit, slightly more black vs red fruit. Good combination of fruit, spice and minerality with moderate structure. I like the balance here, overall good+ for its level.
Red
2014 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bottled 2 weeks ago. Dark berry, slightly sweet, with good concentration. Subtle spice with good minerality and elegant tannins on medium-long finish. Very good for its level.
Red
2012 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay Saint-Francois France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Tasting, brief note. Very reductive start. Dense red berry behind that reduction with background spice, some earth. Good enough for its level.
Red
2013 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay Saint-Francois France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Tasting, brief note. Also showing lots of sulfur aromas so tough to assess nose. Good enough red cherry flavors with firm tannins.
Red
2013 Domaine Roblet-Monnot Volnay 1er Cru Saint Jean France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Bland of Taillepieds and Brouillards. Fresh red cherry with spice hints and elegant structure throughout, then slightly firm finish. Good for its level.
Red
2014 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Tasting, brief note. Ripe and seemingly lush start with moderate spice. Textures really emerge nicely middle-to-finish. Moderate weight and length, but certainly Good+ for its level.

Nico wanted me to go through the 5 Volnay sequence here, even though I tasted this wine at DIVA yesterday. Worthwhile because I then appreciated the varied expressions of Volnay from the different cuvees.
Red
2014 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Red charry and berry aromas, same again on palate with black berry hints. Ripe, fun and forward, with some elegant structure in background. Will drink well young. VG for its level in a few years.

Nico wanted me to go through the 5 Volnay sequence here, even though I tasted this wine at DIVA yesterday. Worthwhile because I then appreciated the varied expressions of Volnay from the different cuvees.
Red
2014 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Les Chevrets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Good fruit intensity but this comes across as somewhat backward and restrained. For whatever reason, I have not enjoyed this vineyard from Nico as much as I enjoy all the others. Other people enjoyed this wine much more than I did today.
Red
2014 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Ripe red and black cherry with less spice but great fruit purity. Entirely destemmed. Intense minerality and textural finish that I really enjoy. VG+ 91-93 point potential here for the medium term, 2020-2030+.
Red
2014 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Also fully destemmed. Very intense fruit purity here as well. Forward start, textural nuance coming through middle to finish. Good length. Also VG+ for medium-term enjoyment.
