Introduction

This was a fun offline. Chrsitophes as usual was great. Our ''go to'' restaurant. The regular bunch were present and some new ones.
Everyone made good choices of wine.

All wines were served bind. Except for the Sauternes (No notes).
Wines are in the order served.

Flight 1 (10 notes)

Red
2003 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Vosne-Romanée Village France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Tasted blind:
Clear ruby red. Nose of cherries, raspberries and an edgy funk. Fresh fruits on the palate. Nice mouth coating tannins with a nice bite of acidity. Medium plus length. Very enjoyable.
My WOTN #2 / Groups WOTN #1.
Red
2003 Argyle Pinot Noir Nuthouse Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
91 points
Tasted blind:
Deeper ruby red than normal for pinot, clear hue. Nice nose of oak, cherries and flowers. Sweet fruits and vanilla on the palate. Nice balance of acidity with a slightly hot finish. Very enjoyable. New world for sure.
My WOTN #3 / Groups WOTN #3.
Red
2004 Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Pinot Noir En Barberon France, Jura, Arbois
86 points
Tasted blind:
Clear ruby red. Very funky nose, almost no fruits. Funk did blow off somewhat, fruits a little more present. Palate of light red fruits, with bracing acidity on a short finish.
Had this down as a burgandy.
Note: Kept some in the glass to see if it would come around, some note of flowers and leather did develop but not enough to boost the note.
Red
2004 Peregrine Pinot Noir Mohau New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
91 points
Tasted blind:
Deeper shade of ruby red. Nice funkiness with dust, cherries, raspberries, moka, violets and leather. Nice acidity with fruits on a nice sweet medium finish. Very enjoyable.
New world for sure.
Red
2003 René Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin Racines du Temps France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Deep ruby red for a pinot ! Nice funk with flowers and more flowers. Also cherries, raspberries and a touch of oak (Vanilla). Nicely balanced acidity with a sweet palate on a medium plus finish. Very enjoyable. I had this as new wordd ???

Red
2002 Bouchard Père et Fils Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
90 points
Tasted blind.
Ruby red. Nice nose of nuts, red fruits, flowers and sour cherries. Nice fresh red fruits on the palates with a little to much acidity at first that balanced out after. Medium finish. Had this as a burgundy.
Red
2001 Lamblin & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
82 points
Tasted blind.
I did not rate this wine very well, rather unremarkable and thin. I was generous with the 82.
Did correctly identify this a burgundy.
Red
2004 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Clos Pepe Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
90 points
Tasted blind. Thanks to Bella Donna to have offered this wine for us to taste !
Deep ruby red. A funky, oaky, toasty band aid nose, with some cherries and cooked strawberries, Slightly alcoholic palate that blew off, also some cherries and nice acidity and a nice vanilla finish with a bit of heat.
Correctly had this as new world.
Red
1999 Chartron et Trébuchet Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
86 points
Tasted blind.
Ruby red, clear. Nose of cherries and a wiff of alcohol. Simple palate but with an Ok finish.
Correctly identified this as burgundy.
Red
2004 Amayna (Viña Garces Silva) Pinot Noir Chile, San Antonio Valley, Leyda Valley
86 points
Tasted blind.
Deep ruby red for pinot. Nose of oak, dried raisins, and red fruits. Palate of tart fruits, sligtly alcoholic.Ok balance and medium finish.
Correctly identified this as new world as it was the one with the least pinot characteristics.

Closing

Nice offline, I did not have high hopes for the wines, but they came out better than I expected. Pinot noir is THE varietal that I have the most disappointments. Although there were no blockbusters I was quite please of the results as the wine were for the most part very enjoyable.
Thanks to all who came and looking forward to the next one !!
