Quite a decent surprise. Still in good shape this Württemberg Riesling delivers some lemon and lime flavours mixed with a noticeable mineral note in the bouquet. Still crisp on the palate with a lively acidity, medium body and good length. For about 11 Euros this is a real bargain.

The first GG Jochen Beurer made out of this site. The years before the fruit went into the “Junge Schwaben” bottling as far as I know.
Tropical, exotic fruit notes like pineapple, mango and papaya with a bit of whipped cream but also a wet stone component dominates the complex nose. You really could feel the ripeness but it’s absolutely not overripe. Just picked at the right time. Striking acidity (vintage) on the palate, lots of minerals, the fruit is also there but just beautifully interwoven. Long, vibrant finish with great focus.
This is still my favourite Riesling out of Württemberg, no doubt. Unfortunately my only bottle. Need to get my hands on some 2014s. The cooler vintages should work better here imo. I think here is still lots of potential left and this GG will reach its peak in about 2-4 years. My rating might look a bit high but I have to support my locals. :)

White fruit, some herbs and a mild acidity are the main components here. Surely a good wine but the vital spark didn’t went on for me. I guess this could deliver a lot of pleasure together with the right food.

The first thing I thought when I saw the description on the label was: How the hell could you’ve make a BA trocken!? Nevertheless I tried this miracle of oenological art but it was completely overpowered by the incredible high alcohol (16 I think, please correct me here if I’m wrong Dirk) which really burns on the palate. Super high extract. Definitely not my cup of tea.

Better than I’ve thought this to be. Definitely recognisable as a German Spätburgunder but not that brought. A bit flat on the palate, surely passed its peak.

Mainly driven by a vanilla component and artificial fruit this wine wasn’t one I would recommend. Easily too much oak influences although on the palate you find some freshness. No potential to develop further. Drink up.

Clearly more on the dark cherry side on the nose. You also get a bit of red currant, grilled herbs and a hint of cinnamon. Although this is considered a warm vintage I really loved the fresh, playful acidity on the palate. More red fruit here mixed with a bit of Orange. The tannins are very well integrated into the wine. Smooth but also vibrant finish.
Huber is always a save bet imo and even in a warmer he could deliver.

An exceptional example of German Frühburgunder by Paul Fürst. At first a bit shy but after some time and with more air in the glass the nose develops a very complex, soil driven flavour profile. You have a bit of red fruit also but it doesn’t play the first role. Graphite, iron, beef steak mixed with herbs and stones are upfront. Lovely smell which changes every minute. Very versatile.
On the palate a cool, nearly transparent mouthfeel. Lovely acidity, perfectly integrated tannins. Again much graphite and stone notes on the finish. A remarkable showing from Fürst.

I had this wine once about two years ago and it doesn’t changed much although I think the last time I recognised at least some earthy and herbal flavours. This time not. To me this Lemberger is totally based on fruit. Acid drops of blueberry, black currant, blackberry and raspberry are totally upfront here. I can’t see much behind this massive fruit attack so I don’t know where we’re going from here. Good acidity and structure on the palate. I’m really curious to see this again in five years but for now I totally miss this “second layer” I expect from a GG. A real bummer for me. Maybe I’m a bit to harsh with my rating but that’s how I feel about this boy.

The start into our little introduction to Oregon Pinot. I find red and black fruit, cinnamon, a bit of wet forest soil and maybe a hint of vanilla on the nose. Fruit also dominates the palate but imo not in a insincere way. The oak influence is certainly there but not as much that it would really disturb me. Medium acidity rounds out this Pinot.

This is really the most burgundian approach to the grape variety out of all the Oregon Pinots we had tonight. A wonderful elegant nose driven by red fruit components like strawberry, dried cranberries and a bit of raspberry mixed with rose petals, lavender, a hint of orange zest but also earthy notes like wet wood, underbrush and wet clay. Really complex and changes over time. This really hits the spot for me, I’m just a sucker for this kind of flavour profile. The palate is also very elegant, fresh and vibrant. The acidity and the tannins are wonderfully interwoven. Good length and a bit of red licorice on the back end. A truly stunning showing imo and together with the Fürst my (red) WOTN. This is really worth to seek out. Even the price of 45 bucks is absolutely on point.

A very good, more masculine than the Cuvee J. interpretation of Oregon Pinot. Still in a youthful stage where the fruit (black fruit dominates over the red) is still very present although you have a certain earthiness underneath. I think this needs more time or a decent decant before consuming.

Also a more light approach to Pinot Noir. Red fruit like strawberry mixed with herbal/earthy notes and some spices upfront on the nose. Nice acidity level and still a good amount of red fruit on the mid-palate. Besides I found also some soil aromas. Very nice to drink now.

A really good entry level Pinot. Driven by its red (a bit artificial) fruit but very fresh and with a nice drinkability. No oak or tannins which would disturb. I wish more German wine producers would go this way.

It was very interesting to try such a old Grünhaus. Unfortunately the cork dropped into the bottle before the tasting and we could not identify for how long the wine was contaminated. Nevertheless the nose still showed some old yellow fruit, a bit of beeswax and in the last corner I still found a hint of this typical green herb component.
A bit of acidity is still there showing the typical Ruwer style. Of course this Auslese past its peak, but it was interesting to try such a old Grünhaus. It would be super curious to taste the same wine from a perfect stored bottle. I think there would be some surprised faces.
