2012 Marc Hébrart Champagne Grand Cru Noces de Craie Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Disgorged January 25, 2017. Perhaps this is still suffering a bit from being disgorged so recently, but frankly, I expected more out of this bottling. As it stands, this seems to me on par with the Special Club (which, of course, is an outstanding wine). This is a bit softer and rounder, but with, indeed, great chalkiness (or is that the power of suggestion?). There's a slight bit of nuttiness as well, but it seemed to me that this was lacking a bit in just overall concentration or extract.

2002 Deutz Champagne Cuvée William Deutz France, Champagne
90 points
Just not my day with champagne. Kind of expected a little more from Bill Deutz as well, especially given this is the tete de cuvee. In any case, it was still a lovely wine, fairly approachable now, with a good touch of sweetness and plumpness from the fruit. Good cut as well, this seemed a bit more linear than the broader Hebrart that we drank alongside.

1998 Pierre Bourée Fils Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
90 points
A fairly mature wine at this point, the nose was quite clean, though there was a little bit of dirt initially that did blow off. This seems to show a little bit of oak still, but the fruit is the most important thing here, and it was clean, bright, and red. Fairly burly on the palate, this shows a little bit of an iron characteristic, and definitely some of the earthy power of a Gevrey. This is more on the rustic side of Burgundy, although this is a fairly clean wine.

2015 Domaine Auguste Clape Côtes du Rhône France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône
90 points
A fairly solid bottle of Côtes du Rhône. It's not mindblowing or anything like that, but it is a well-made wine for the level, for sure. I think the ripeness of the vintage has helped this out a lot, though it doesn't display as much overt fruit as you might think. It's a fairly burly wine, with a darker personality, and more earth and tannin than you would expect.

1999 Prager Riesling Smaragd Achleiten Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

Despite this having been opened two days ago, this is just as fresh, elegant, and delicious as I remember it a few months ago. There's a minute touch of sweetness here that balances with the greenness and the minerality so well. It's a fairly lean wine, without any oily or waxy textures either. Crisp and delicious, I love the longevity of this too...
