White - Sparkling
2002 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année

What a treat to start out a nice tasting. Lovely aicidity, clean, smooth, bread dough. This is a Cary Grant Champagne. I'm looking forward to this in 5+ years.

White
2013 Lamy-Caillat Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
93 points
Drank a small pour at a tasting. Smoky, lemon, light, with a slight chaulky ash flavor/texture. Some funk, with dank earthiness (Rocknroller said it, and I completely agree, very DANK)
White
2007 Domaine du Chateau de Meursault Meursault 1er Cru
91 points
This is quite saline and light. I can smell the minerality, it really stands out. Once again I'll note that this is an attypical wine for Meursault. It does not have the richness or golden fruit.
White
2013 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard
93 points
This is such a consistent wine, and this bottle was fantastic. The fact that we drank it next to 2 white Burgundies really showed the stylistic difference. Even though this is not a big Chardonnay, it is certainly Californian. It has some aspects of White Burgundy, but also differentiates itself.

Red
1994 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
93 points
30 minute decant. I absolutely loved this. Tons of funk, very rustic nose. Nice red fruit, tobacco, spice and loam. This is quite smooth, but it is rustic.
Red
1996 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou
91 points
2 hour decant. This seemed shy and maybe closed. Pure red fruit, cassis, good structure and refinement. It seems a little too clean, especially when drunk aside a 1994 Pichon Lalande. Still quite good.

1985 Dominus Estate

Pop and pour, this is an amazing wine. Harmonious, classic Napa cab, completely resolved, seemless and friendly. Saddle leather, red fruit, so complex, almost subtle in the numerous scents and tastes in it. Jason, buy more!
Red
2004 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes
92 points
Unknown decant time. There was great pure fruit here, as Janasse so often delivers. The VV clearly seems a step above the regular bottling, mostly in elegance/refinement. They are cut from the same cloth.
Red
2005 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence
91 points
JCGUTHRIE's bottle. This was surprisingly hot, with anise, and NO FUNK. For a Pegau, that was weird. I didn't feel there was much going for it. It did improve with even more air than initially given. I found this wine somewhat challenging to drink and understand. I've had better experiences with the regular CDP.
Red
2003 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle
93 points
This wine was a strange but enjoyable marriage between Hermitage complexity and sun-filled fruit. It easily bested a 2004 Janasse VV and a 2005 Pegau Laurence. As much as I like it, others at the table seemed to enjoy it even more than I did.

Red
2007 Realm Cellars Farella Vineyard
90 points
2 hr decant. A VERY small pour due to the wine owner spilling 1/2 of it in his Uber car. I'd had a fair amount to drink before I got to this wine, and I only wrote "Modern Napa cab, whatever", which I stand behind. Nonetheless, this wine had resolved tannins and was smoother and less cocktail-ish than most modern Napa cabs I've had.
Red
2009 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon Cask
90 points
ROCKNROLLER's bottle. Oaky and rich. Really rich. Rich, lush, full and also balanced, unlike most Napa today. Black fruit. This is young, and in a style that I could see it aging longer than most.

Red - Fortified
1994 Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vintage
This was graciously brought to a tasting, where we already had a lot of bottles of wine to go through. It simply did not get the treatment or respect that it deserved, including by me. I love port and I would have liked to appreciate and understand this one, but I wasn't in the right state to do so at this time. I remember that it was enjoyable, and that is all.
Note to myself and others - If you do bring a port to these tastings, maybe save half the bottle at home for later.
