Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
88 points
(Disgorged in April of 2017, 80%PN, 20%CH, 50% from base year 2011)
Youthful nose showing bread, minerals and citrus. Palate is very accessible already with a smooth and creamy acidity and a long lime peel finish. This is very good aperitif champagne and should benefit from a couple of years of post-disgorgement cellaring.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Grand Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
89 points
(Disgorged in 2017, base year 2012)
Lovely nose showing incipient maturity with red berries, mineral and baked bread. Austere acidity on the palate with lovely minerality and nice lengthy finish. This will evolve in a wonderful way over the coming decade.
Rosé - Sparkling
2012 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Spécial Club Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Nose showing cherry stone and minerals in a youthful style. Palate is balanced with refined cherry fruit and lengthy finish. This is a good new cuvee, but in need of more post-disgorgement time to open up.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
2007 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
89 points
Nose showing citrus, herbs and flowers on the nose. Lovely creaminess on the palate and a long fresh acidic lime peel bitterness on the finish. This is already very available, but should evolve over the coming decade.
White - Sparkling
2008 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Brut Millésimé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
(Disgorged in May of 2017) Youthful nose showing sulphur, gun powder and flowers in a lovely mix. Palate has such tiny bubbles and creamy taste that opens up in an explosion of raspberries, with a very long lime peel and hint of vanilla on the finish. Lovely saltiness on the lips and wonderful already, but in need of a long life with its acidity that give structure.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
2002 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Special Club France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
93 points
Lovely yellow colour with a youthful nose showing baked bread and butterscotch at first and opening up with honey and chocolate. Intense palate with a lovely citrus acidity and yellow apples fruit. Long lengthy creamy finish showing honey and citrus.
This shows lots of potential for further development and feels quite closed down still.
White - Sparkling
2004 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Special Club France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
90 points
Tried two bottles that where very different, one was showing rubber on the nose and felt less fruitful on the palate. The better bottle was showing honey citrus notes in a youthful way. Palate is creamy with a smooth taste and long lime peel finish.
White - Sparkling
2006 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Special Club France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
(Disgorged in spring of 2017) Nose showing apple fruity sweetness and a hint of cloudberries. Lovely acidic palate with a spicy note of ginger and a nice long finish showing lime and ginger. This is very nice, but different compared to other Special Clubs from Paul Bara. Lovely elegant creaminess and very youthful and need time to evolve. Lovely salitness in the finish.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
2005 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Comtesse Marie de France France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
(100% Pinot noir)
Nose showing butterscotch and physalis in a youthful way and opening up with a hint of cinnamon and tropical fruit. Palate is showing a lovely creaminess and acidity that almost hides the yellow plum fruit. Long and lengthy finish that lasts a long time. Already accesible and available and elegant as always. But with the intensity so typical for the Comtesse Marie de France that will allow it to evolve gracefully over time.
Red
2006 Paul Bara Coteaux Champenois Grand Cru Bouzy Rouge France, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois
90 points
Nose starting to open up showing stables, herbs and a spiciness. Palate is austere with cherry stones and a long peppery finish. This is balanced acidity and fruit and should evolve very well for many years to come.
Red
2008 Paul Bara Coteaux Champenois Grand Cru Bouzy Rouge France, Champagne, Coteaux Champenois
88 points
(Approx 2 500 bottles made per vintage)
Intense showing of peppery and cherry on the nose at first and the opening up some more showing stables, herbs and grass in a pleasant youthful style. Palate is intense with rought tannins and high acidity that hides the warm sweet morello fruit.
This is a bit more intense compared with the 2006 vintage showing more spicyness and needs quite some time to open up itself.
