Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2016 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Dundee Hills USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
N: Attractive straws with floral notes

P: LM body; ATTRACTIVE frt met by some astringent pucker whih pretty much resolves by the LONG finish with a swtness to the dusty tannins -- & a very, VERY slight bitterness. Deserves/NEEDS a yr or so, then drinking for 3 yrs more. Nicely done in the style! My VG+/EXC-, arguably the higher based upon QPR. 93 pts WA; [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Red
2015 Ayres Vineyard Pinot Noir Lewis Rogers Lane Ribbon Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
N: Slightly closed; Blk rasps, poss plums, some floral?

P: Med body; NICE frt met by some astringent pucker which QUITE resolves by the LONG, slightly tangy finish with a distinct swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins -- & only OCCASIONAL *hints* of a very, VERY slight bitterness. For now & the next 4 yrs. DELIGHTFULLY done! My EXC-/EXC, arguably the higher based upon QPR. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Red
2015 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
"Handpicked into 25-pound totes, then hand sorted & de-stemmed" prior to a "long & careful" fermentation; Aged in "custom made" Burgundian barrels; 15,682 cases made

N: Straws/red rasps

P: Med body; NICE frt met by astringent pucker which transitions into a LONG, balanced, ult pleasant finish for now (IF one can tolerate/ignore the early-P structure) & through '21. 14.1% ABV; My VG+/EXC-. 95 pts Suckling, 92 WE @ $45, 91 ea WS & Vinous (Raynolds), 90 WA, 16.5+/20 Jancis Robinson (Hemming), & Gold @ '17 Mundus Vini. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Red
2014 Auteur Pinot Noir USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
Grapes from the Labyrinth [2 acres of dry-farmed, deep Goldridge soils located @ the juncture of Sonoma's Russian River and Green Valley AVA’s] & Robert Roberts [Sangiacomo farmed, @ the base of Sonoma Mountain @ the far northern edge of the Petaluma Gap, featuring very well drained with silty gravel soil] Vyds; 60% new FR cooperage; 176 cs made

N: Slightly closed; Straws, red rasps

P: Med body; Med body; Rndish entry with NICE frt met by a bit of astringent pucker which loses the astringency by the LONG, slightly tangy finish with a swtness to the dusty tannins. For now (with food) & should hold through at LEAST '21. 14.5% ABV; My EXC-. 91 pts WA. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Red
2016 Melville Pinot Noir Block M USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
"Block M is a windswept mesa on the W side of our estate lying adjacent to our Terraces block. Sitting atop a sun exposed mesa with several feet of botella clay soil, the extremity of Block M is enhanced by the gravitational pull on 3 exposed sides forcing the roots to search deeper for sustenance. Block M is made up of equal amounts of clones 114 & 115." 1.4 tons/acre yield, 70% whole cluster; "Aged in neutral barrels (5-20 yr old FR oak);" 14.2% ABV; 598 cs released 01-20-18;

N: Closed; Straws

P: LM body; NICE frt invitingly counterbalanced by a very, VERY slightly astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the LONG, VERY slightly spicy finish with a tangy/swtness to the relatively few tannins. Deserves into, poss through '19, then drinking for the ff 3 yrs. My EXC- in a lighter style. 95+ pts Jeb Dunnuck, 94 Vinous (Galloni), 93 ea Wine & Spirits and WA, and 91 WS. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]
Red
2017 Siduri Pinot Noir Santa Barbara County USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
"A mix of whole cluster & destemmed grapes... primarily from vyds in the Sta. Rita Hills;" 0.65 g/mL T.A.

N: RIPE straws, poss plums

P: LM body; NICE, almost swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which does lose the bulk of its astringency as it morphs into a LONG, very, VERY slight bitter finish with a tangy/swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins. Deserves/NEEDS through '19, then for 4 yrs more? 14.7% ABV; My VG+/EXC-, arguably the higher for QPR. [Check with this vendor if interested in their very COMPETITIVE price.]

Note: At least SOMEWHAT different than my impressions on 11/17/2018.

Exclusive of price, I'd feel a TAD more comfortable with the CAs, though when factoring in price [the CAs were 30% > overall], & faced with having to buy OR *or* CA as a group, I'd go OR w/o regret.

Nonetheless, remembering my "audience"@ home, IF I were to buy one of the 6 (& I'm probably not), it would LIKELY be the Melville because of its lightness/approachability *&* the fact the relatives with whom I actually imbibe have visited/purchased wines from there in the past.
