Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2015 Weingut Schnaitmann Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Germany, Württemberg
Tasted blind. Clear, pale golden color. Medium intense nose, not 100% clean with a tiny bit of cellar mold. Ripe pear, a bit musty, acacia, a bit of oak, blossoms, smoke. Quite complex. White Rhone?
Dry, medium acidity, quite high alcohol. On the palate quite creamy, lots of extract, good balance, full bodied. Ripe fruit, some floral notes and again a bit of cellar mold. Medium+ finish. Quite young.
That should be Sauvignon Blanc? Seriously? Never guessed that. Serious wine, but I guess it was a bit tainted, so no “official” rating. At this stage around 88-89 for me.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2009 Friedrich Becker Sankt Paul Spätburgunder Großes Gewächs Germany, Pfalz
92 points
Tasted blind. Clear, pale garnet color. Clean nose, that needed time to open up. At first hard to detect: lots of new oak, leather, some butter, dense and compact. Later with some time and air fresh herbs, spices, strawberry and rosehip. Quite complex, but mainly driven by oak.
On the palate dry, medium (+) acidity, well integrated, medium+, ripe tannin. Some vanilla, herbs, classic German Pinot fruit (strawberry, some raspberry), later some caramel and toffee. Very round, harmonious, very balanced, good pressure and quite long. A bit too much oak here, but with time and air a very good Pinot with quite some potential for further improvement. 92++

Flight 3 (1 note)

White
2009 Wittmann Westhofener Morstein Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Rheinhessen
93 points
Tasted blind. Clear, medium golden color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose. Very dense and dark aromas mixed with chalky mineral notes. Needs air to develop more fruitiness (ripe pineapple).
Dry, medium+ ripe acidity. On the palate a beautiful mix of ripe pineapple and other stone fruit, some smokiness, lots of mineral notes, a bit of green, phenolic notes. Lots of extract and pressure, very dense and great tension, combined with a beautiful balance. Wonderful length. Seems still quite young. Give it 2-3+ more years. 93+

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2005 Philippe Livera Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Village Domaine des Tilleuls France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
86 points
Tasted blind. Clear, medium garnet color with some watery rim. Clean, medium intense, fully developed nose. A bit oxidized, some iron, dried red fruits, some barn.
Dry, rather low tannin, medium body. On the palate again a bit oxidized, some fine fruit, a bit of iron, some coffee. Nice texture, but certainly this bottle was past its peak and rather thin. 86

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2004 Cusumano Sicilia Noa Italy, Sicily, Sicilia
85 points
Tasted blind. Clear, deep ruby color. Quite strange nose with aromas of straw and just a bit of fruit. On the palate very dense, thick/broad, sweet, jammy, some raisins and everything combined with a pinch of salt. Certainly not my style of wine and IMHO past its peak. 85-87

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red
2008 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay Vendanges Sélectionnées France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
92 points
Tasted blind. Clear, medium garnet color. Clean, at first quite closed and dense nose. With air and time it opens up and reveals very elegant and fine red fruit, chalky mineral notes and some herbs. Dry, racy acidity and fine grained tannin. Medium body (13% abv). Very interesting saltiness, combined with red fruit (cherry, redcurrant) and herbs. It has lots of tension, fine structure and texture, sinewy, juicy. Long and fruity finish. Certainly not at its full peak yet. Lovely Burgdundy! 91-92+

Flight 7 (1 note)

White - Off-dry
1990 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Clear, pale youthful golden color. Clean, medium intense, developing nose with some vanilla crescent, beeswax, Pina Colada, ripe yellow stone fruit. Very soft, round and harmonious.
Off-dry, medium+ acidity, a bit too much on the citrus site and it stands out a tiny bit. Only 7,5% abv. Fine mineral core, some vanilla, ripe yellow fruit, some green pepper. A bit phenolic. Wonderful balance and harmony. Juicy, airy and this wine rests in itself. Long and juicy finish. Potential for at least another decade. 92

Flight 8 (1 note)

White - Off-dry
2004 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Tasted blind. Clear, pale lemon color, very youthful. Clean, medium- intense, almost shy nose, quite reductive and with some Sulphur. Citrus notes, slate. Very fine and elegant.
On the palate medium-sweet, medium+ acidity, perfectly integrated. Only 7,5% abv. Very elegant on the palate with some fine exotic and citrus fruit and a fine core of slate. Deep, with lots of extract, good balance, very juicy, precise and clear. Long and lingering finish. This wine is still too young. Its high degree SO2 will prepare it for a long future 😊 Give it 10 more years to fully shine. 92++

1993 J. Lauerburg Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Never heard about this winery before, but great vintage and a famous vineyard, hey, what can possibly go wrong?
Clear, medium golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, developing nose. Deep, with some spices, botrytis, dried apricots, raisings, some vanilla. Lovely perfume!
Medium-sweet with well-integrated, medium+ acidity and only 8% abv. On the palate some dark, earthy tones, spices, honey, raisins, ripe stone fruit. Wonderful deep with lots of extract, concentrated, great tension and pressure. Beautiful length. At its peak, but it will stay there at least for another decade. Beautiful! 93
