Flight 1 (8 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Charles de Cazanove Champagne Tête de Cuvée France, Champagne
N: Some yeastiness with lemons & poss minerals?

P: LM, poss Med, body; NICE, ALMOST swtish frt braced by an acidity which deftly defines the wine into & through the LONG, TANGY/swt (70:30) with a very, VERY slight bitterness which MIGHT be a +. My VG+/EXC-, the higher poss for QPR. [Check with this vendor if interested in their competitive pricing.]
White - Sparkling
N.V. Devaux Champagne Cuvée D Brut France, Champagne
N: YEAST atop apples

P: LM body; NICE frt BEAUTIFULLY offset by an acidity which fairly seamlessly evolves into a LONG, almost lip-smackingly tangy/swt finish which SHOULD be DYNAMITE with food. My EXC-/EXC, trending towards the higher. [This vendor's $44.95 heads up the SMALL wine-searcher class.]

White - Sparkling
N.V. Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Réserve France, Champagne
N: Bread dough, but almost richly so?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt off set by an acidity which sets the parameters into & through the quite LONG, tangy/swt finish. A versatile style that strikes me as being adept as either a quaff or with food. My EXC; [TOTALLY uncharacteristically, this vendor's $45.95 puts it in the TOP of the wine-searcher's BOTTOM quartile.]
White - Sparkling
N.V. Herbert Beaufort Champagne Grand Cru Carte d'Or Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Typically, 90% P.N. & 10% Chard from vines ave 45 yrs old & planted in soils of thick clay & chalky sediment; "10% Reserve wine aged in 5 yr old, 600L oak barrels, 30% aged in s/s tanks, & 60% from that year's harvest. Direct pressing & clarification of must, temp controlled alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation blocked, & minimal dosage, being close to Extra Brut."

N: CLOSED; Hints of apples & earth?

P: Med, poss LM, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt offset by an acidity which keeps things in check through the LONG, tangy/swt finish. Best as an aperitif, but COULD serve with lighter entrees. My EXC-; [This vendor's $32.95 is $5 < than the lowest of wine-searcher's limited entries.]
White - Sparkling
N.V. Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée Brut France, Champagne
"Blend: 60% P.N., 25% Chard, & 15% Meunier, > 85% from Grand & 1er crus vyds; Maturation: cellar aged > twice the time required by the appellation. Dosage: moderate, 8-9 g/L; Special Cuvée is the result of the delicate blending between harvest grapes & a majority of reserve wines, part of which have been aged in magnums for 5-15 yrs."

N: A creamy take on yeastiness?

P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtiy which subtly sh, creamy frt offset by an acidity which subtly directs the action into & through the LONG finish with a very, VERY slight bitterness that MIGHT be an asset. My EXC; [This vendor's $56.95 puts it in the bottom 1/2 of wine-searcher's MASSIVE listing.]

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Taittinger Champagne Brut Prestige Rosé France, Champagne
From 375 ml

N: Straws with undertones of oranges -- & yeastiness underneath even that?

P: M body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt nicely off-set by an acidity which subtly directs the action into & through the LONG, BALANCE, elegant finish. My EXC for this versatile style. [This vendor's $22.95 for 375 ml would appear to be VERY competitive.]
White - Sparkling
2014 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs USA, California, North Coast
From 375 ml

100% Chard from Napa (66%), Sonoma (31%), & 3% Marin (3%) Counties; Harvested August 11-September 24, 2014: “Small lots of malolactic- & barrel-fermented (17%) wines are added for complexity. The wine is aged on the yeast lees in the bottle for over 2 yrs prior to disgorgement.” 12.8% ABV, 0.95 g/100 ml R.S., 0.90 g/100 ml T.A., & 3.13 pH;

N: Yeast with notes of caramel?

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt BEAUTIFULLY offset by an acidity which deftly works everything out by the LONG, tangy/SWT finish. Best as an aperitif, but could work with luncheon fare. My EXC-; 92 pts WE @ $40, & 90 WA. [Check with this vendor if interested in their *very* COMPETITIVE price for the 375 ml size!]
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Simonnet-Febvre Crémant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé France, Burgundy, Crémant de Bourgogne
Typically, P.N. from vines ave 20 yrs old (yielding 65 hl/ha), grown in the clay & limestone soils of high altitude vyds in the Yonne area; "Traditional vinification; Blending: P.N. only, single vintage. Prise de Mousse: 2nd fermentation inside the bottle (after addition of the 'liqueur de tirage')
'Remuage' & disgorging: to eliminate 2nd fermentation sediments.
'Dosage': a sugar liquor is added, leaving 8g/l of R.S."

N: Slightly closed; Earth atop (poss) red rasps, yeast way underneath? Intensity lurking?

P: MF body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) with acidity TRYING to balance. The finish is fairly long with a tangy/SWTNESS. Best suited as a quaff/aperitif, where it just MIGHT excel. My VG+; [This vendor's $14.95 is $1 < wine-searcher's lowest listing.]
