Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
2000 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année France, Champagne
92 points
Very deep and rich, really stunning.
White
2015 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
Very big, rich, baked apple and cream, pastry crust. Good energy, no flab despite the richness. All really enjoyed.
White
2012 Domaine Jean Chartron Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Chosen to follow the Pahlmeyer 2015 Chardonnay, to give us an old-world comparison that might come close in style, depth, ripeness. We clearly drank these the wrong way 'round - this was great but overwhelmed by the richness of the Pahlmeyer. Much leaner, racier, more energy.

Red
1996 Ridge Monte Bello USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Decanted for an hour, might have benefited from longer. Strong oak on the nose, almost offputting in its intensity. Wonderful on the palette, really well-integrated, complex and long. A great example of the style.
Red
2004 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Really stunning. Again drank out of order - slightly overshadowed by the 1996 Ridge Monte Bello which preceded it. But this was lovely, perfectly put together, drinking very well on 15 years of age.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2008 Klein Constantia Vin de Constance South Africa, Coastal Region, Cape Peninsula, Constantia
From magnum. Deep, rich, long but amazing freshness, not too sweet, not cloying. Remarkable.
