Introduction

Unbelievable Birthday Clash. There were you many great wines I don't know whch one were in my top 5. Thanks a lot for the invitation. Mindblowing

Flight 1 - Pettenthal 16-18 Auction (3 notes)

The 17 is the best wine. 18 in his youth similar to 17. 16 well drinkable at the moment

White

flintstone and citric fruits in balance. Less Exotic fruits than usually. Great acidity, saline. Small vertical of Pettenthal 16, 17 and 18.
The most accessible of these three. Phantastic concentration.

A bit closed compared to 6-12 months before. Very reductive, austere, missing the charme, but a phantastic wine for the next two decades. 96(99). Small vertical of 16-18. The biggest wine of these three but at the moment the most "boring" one.

Reminds me to the 17 when it was freshly released. Austere, flintstone, smokey but with great unripe yuzu acidity. 96(98). not the same density as 17. Great precision and length

Flight 2 (1 note)

Phantastically balanced

2018 Weingut Keller Piesporter Schubertslay Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben Auction Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

I'm still not a big fan of this style but this is one of the best I had so far. Nicely balanced, The sweetness is playing with your palate without being annoying and the acidity the strong enough to downgrade the sugar but not huting your papilles. For the nest 20 yaers. 96+

Flight 3 (2 notes)

White
2015 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Rheinhessen

In a perfect stage. The tropical fruits are as always in the background but the spicieness is more reluctant so you have a great balance between herbal and citrus notes. Very straight and dense. 96

Lovely to drink now. Maybe a hint too sweet in the end but really great acidity structure. Herbal, spicy and precise. At least 5-8 years ahead. 94-95

All champagnes finished, this one left. Simply great

A tremendous champagne. Elegant, reluctant but pure Energy. The best Young Cristal I had so far. I think in a blind tasting of 2008 it will never win but the velvety is convincing 96(98)

2013 is a stunning year at Keller's. Charming, powerful, saline, dense, balanced. Reluctant exotic fruits. At least 10 more years. 95

For me a great wine with finesse, precision and fun effect. Pineapple, passionfruit in the background and salinity and a refreshing acidity in the dominant role. 96(98). I prefer it to the kabinett auction

Flight 6 (2 notes)

White
2015 Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese *** (White Capsule) Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Very powerful, for me not a typical Mosel Riesling, made in a new oak. Apricot, pink grapefruit, dense, vibrant acidity. Far way from his peak. 94

white capsule
Nicely balanced but still too sweet in spite of a refreshing acidity. Some peach and melon. 90-91

Still very fresh. It feels drier as Felseneck same vintage I had 2 months before. Very balanced. Typical SF nose with some herbals but nice finish with pink grapefruit notes. No hurry to drink this wine. 94-95
White

Very elegant, austere, minimal fruit but a cracking acidity. Saline in the finish.Flintstone, herbal, not perfeectly balanced in this stage. 92-93

Flight 8 (1 note)

White
2008 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

After knowing it is Chablis it was obvious Raveneau because of power and concentration. I guessed Les Clos 2011. Still young, no hurry to finish ties wine. Maybe peak 95

Flight 9 (2 notes)

2017 Domaine Bernard-Bonin Meursault Clos du Cromin France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Not many notes but precise finish and nicely balanced with the oak. 94

origine is unique. Ceamy, caramell, nuts and a lot of power. Later likewise some wines from Caroline morey (vintage 2017) which I would prefer because of the elegance. 95

Flight 10 (2 notes)

One of my suprises

White
2017 Caroline Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Guessed Burgundy PC or GC, elegant, no disturbing oak, balanced, finesse and power in the late palate. Nice gem. 96+

One bottle before we had likewise blindly 1er Cru Les Caillerets. This was denser but the other was fresher and more balanced. Oak is perfectly integrated. Austere with some roasted almonds and lime in the finish.

WOTN

White
2005 Domaine d'Auvenay (Lalou Bize-Leroy) Auxey-Duresses Les Clous Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses
98 points
blind
An epic wine. I had d'Auvenay for the first time one week ago and the nose is so similar after roasted popcorn that I could recognize. I guessed younger and Went for the Chardonnay (the other was Aligote). Fresh, delicate, no oak at all in the palate, not ending finish. Maybe at his peak. 98

Flight 12 (1 note)

Red
1998 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Blind, from Magnum
Old school Barola. Violet, tar, dark cherries, concentrated, soft tannins with grip. Lovely wine to with food. 93

Flight 13 (2 notes)

Red
2005 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny
93 points

I guessed PN from Burgundy but for that it was too wild and spicy. Violet, tar and red currant. Fresh and dense. In spite of the power elegant and filigree. At his peak. 93

Red
2006 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

One wine after the Les Clos 2005 from Clos Rougeard that was served blindly. A bit more concentration and fruit. Elegant with a lot of precision in the finish. Not really a lack of acidity but I had some Le Bourg with more freshness. 94-95

Flight 14 (2 notes)

Knebel Top3 of the night

White - Sweet/Dessert
2017 Weingut Knebel Winninger Röttgen Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
98 points
blind, half bottle
nailed it completely but in all fairness the grower was at the party but the bottle not from him.
A magical wine. Everything fits to the right place. No disturbing sweetness. A masterpiece. 98+
White
2015 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

I had this wine a few times, still a great Kabi, even not my style of wine. Some peach, melon and lemon like a lemonade. 92-93

Flight 15 (1 note)

2nd WoTN

White - Sparkling
N.V. Jacques Selosse Champagne Lieux-dits Extra Brut Avize - Les Chantereines France, Champagne
97 points
not blind
The nose is pure Selossian. Pine nut, honey, power and finesse, killing aicidity. Refreshing, elegant. If you try to explain this special wine it is the complexity in the palate but the precision in finish. Very controversial in the group, starting with cork or a defective note. I was pleased that my generous friend opened this special wine. 97+

Delicious

White
2015 Weingut Keller Riesling G-Max Germany, Rheinhessen

Concentrated, less spicy than Abtserde but peach, passionfruit, yuzu in the beginning. Later more saline and pure in the finish. A monster for at least two more decades. 98(99)

Closing

My top 3
d'Auvenay
Knebel TBA 2017 nailed blindly
Selosse Les Charenteines

Thanks
