Introduction

two Rhone (CdP & Gigondas) vs two Barossa

very impressed on Torbreck's purity, CdP's balance, Gigondas' complication and effort of saluting old old world on The Holy Trinity

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Open fruity nose, medium bodied, some spices, smooth tannins and balanced, most elegant in the flight. I thought it’s The Holy Trinity which was not very impressive in my experience. After one hour breathing, the fruity core emerged, turning to a nice CdP.

M/m- bodied, pure fruity notes, sweet and vanilla in the core. M+ finish with some spices. Very new world, medium scale structure, very well polished. Best on purity and freshness. I recognised it by its new world style. Rated #1 by groups, favoured by ladies :-P

Typical GSM, dark fruits, spices. Warm and smooth texture. Medium bodied, smooth tannins, medium finish with chocolate notes. I thought it’s CdP as it’s restrained and balanced. It’s really close to CdP style. Rated #2 by group, amazing combination of old world and new world styles.

Dense flavours, dark plum, five-spice, not very clear and precise, but layered by meaty and earthy notes, with medium grained tannins and solid acidity, the rustic feeling is actually warm-hearted, full of flavours of home kitchen. It’s complicated, somehow sensual.

it’s on the opposite side of Torbreck’s pure fruity style, very old world. I recognised my wine easily and rated it #1 :-), however this style is not accepted by the group, especially ladies, they were indulged by too many premium AU/NZ red wines.
