Introduction

Charlie F put together a group of wine drinkers on the west coast and started sending samples during the COVID days. This was the 4th week of the samples, and we've gone through some trials with different containers, fill levels, and types of wines.

An epic and educational line up put together by Charlie, and always a fun time with the group.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2010 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Quick note from memory - wine was very balanced, great purity of fruit, and firing on all cylinders easily in the top 2 of the night out of the '10-'15 vertical.
Red
2011 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Quick note from memory - this wine showed a stemmy note that smelled like sweet oak, this particular note was a bit distracting and unbalanced the wine overall. Bottom of the '10-'15 vertical.

Tasted this on day 2 & 3 and the wine did come around a bit, though still ranked in the bottom of the pack.
Red
2012 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Quick note from memory - this wine was straight down the middle. Smelled the most like typical syrah. A great example of an elegant and balanced Northern Rhone syrah. Ranked 4/6 out of the '10-'15 vertical.
Red
2013 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Quick note from memory - the '13 had an intoxicating nose and smelled the best out of the lineup! The only thing that held this wine back from being #1 was the fruit was a bit muddy on the palate. Ranked 3/6 =)
Red
2014 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Quick note from memory - so much intensity and so much finesse at the same time. The nose was intoxicating and palate was oh so balanced! Ranks in the top 2 and maybe only slightly edged out by the elegance of the '10. Though the nose of the '14 wins hands down!

Quick note from memory - the '15 smelled the most different out of the lineup, but that wasn't a good thing. Had a distracting bit of brett on the nose and the wine overall didn't seem balanced. Hopefully it a comes around in a couple of years. 5/6 out of the lineup.
