Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2018 Inama Soave Classico Vigneti di Foscarino Italy, Veneto, Soave Classico
Tasted and noted double-blind. Pale gold color. Aromas - floral, citrus flesh & apple skin, forest floor, orange blossom, spices. Round, ripe and succulent palate. Fleshy middle palate, zesty acid, pithiness on the finish.

Really tough one. Guessed Rias Baixas Albarino, but was not confident in all in the guess.
White
2019 Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau Mâcon-Villages Clos Saint Pancras France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages
Tasted and noted double-blind. Pale yellow color. Notes of autumn foliage, yellow pear, quince and white flowers. Rich & luscious palate with tree fruit and florals, along with hints of citrus zest. Round middle, zesty acid, lots of texture. Clean finish with hints of spice.

Guessed new world Pinot Blanc

White
2017 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Tasted and noted double blind. Pale gold color. Earthy, pity aromas - soil, rocks, zesty stone fruit, hints of citrus and spices. Richly textured palate with ripe stone and tree fruit, round secondary depth, lifting acidity and solid depth on the finish.

I guessed Central Coast white Rhone-style blend. I tend to taste more citrusy and zesty Chardonnay. The ripeness and stone/tree fruit and spice/earth threw me off. Very interesting reveal.
Red
2013 Campolargo Bairrada Baga Portugal, Beiras, Bairrada
Tasted and noted double blind. Clear ruby color. Aromas of pressed florals, exotic ripe red fruit (cherry & wild berries), root & baking spices. The palate shows mulled spices, red & dark fruit, spices, florals, with a zesty and rich middle. Medium-plus acid and round juicy tannins. Medium length on the finish.

I had no idea on this one. The clear color and red fruit made made me think it could be Pinot Noir from Oregon in a ripe structured vintage. Or a really ripe Gamay. A Spanish Mencia would have been a better guess in retrospect.
Red
2018 Alexander Valley Vineyards Merlot USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
Tasted and noted double blind. Full medium-ruby color. Aromas of red currant, blackberry, cedar, tobacco leaf, clove and spices. Round, stately ripe fruit on the palate, secondary spice, leather and tobacco. Round middle palate, easy-going overall. Round soft tannins. Very approachable.

Guessed new world Merlot, probably North Coast but possibly South American.

Red
2016 Michel Gassier Costières-de-Nîmes Nostre Païs France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Costières-de-Nîmes
Tasted and noted double blind. Medium-ruby color. Aromas of wild herb, berries, dried florals, iodine and blood. Nicely expressive black fruit palate, with secondary notes of wild medicinal herb, blood, florals, earth and leather- rich and savory. Densely textured, medium acid, round and full tannins.

I guessed Mourvedre-based blend - Old World, Southern France.
