Flight 1 (1 note)
White - Sparkling
2012 Famille Moussé Champagne Terre d'illite Blanc de Noirs
91 points
100% Pinot Meunier. Light golden; aromatic, slight brioche and yeast; medium bodied, nice and tart lemon-lime, excellent mousse, slight apple and pear; medium finish. Lovely champagne. 91
On retaste over the next few hours, largely unchanged but definitely shows that bit of apple that likely comes from Pinot Meunier.

Flight 2 (1 note)
White
2007 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne
93 points
Golden; creamy, still needs time to open up; full bodied, white fruits, richly textured; long finish. A bit tight, will benefit from decanting. 92++
On retaste over the next few hours, this opens up quite a bit. The combination of rich texture and fresh acidity and lemon-lime tartness is striking and provides an energy and class to this wine which is intriguing. 93

1999 Château Ausone

Small amount of well settled sediment, decanted off. Medium-plus ruby, some bricking consistent with its age; surprisingly aromatic, bell pepper, slightly leafy, menthol, fruit seems mostly plums, dusty chocolate; palate is full bodied, richly textured at first, transitions to medium-plus acidity, some herbal quality which initially is more prominent than fruit, tannins fully integrated; long finish. This is a fascinating wine. It does seem like a relatively unique expression of Bordeaux (esp for St. Emilion), cabernet franc-dominant, but with a plushness that is either the Merlot or the vintage. Plenty of complexity. Surprisingly not tannic given the reputation of the chateau, and ready to drink now but with a lot of improvement ahead. At the moment it's a touch too herbal for me, and I'm curious to see if the fruit becomes a bit more prominent with air. 94+
On retaste over the next 6 hours, the herbal component is a bit more integrated but otherwise largely unchanged. This comes across as still a bit youthful and will certainly gain in complexity over the next 2 decades.

1989 Château La Conseillante
94 points
Medium ruby, some bricking consistent with age; aromatic, classically Bordeaux nose with tobacco, mature black fruits, forest floor; medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, fully integrated tannins, slight bell pepper, limited fruit but appropriate for its age; long finish. Really lovely, classic, fully mature Bordeaux. 94
