Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2011 Château Jas de Bressy Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
93 points
Deep yellow gold, viscous and daybright. Quite a pronounced nose with aromas of chamomile, dried apricots and caramel corn. Full bodied, yet with bright acids, and overripe pineapple flavours and again that chamomile, as well as toasted popcorn, then a delicate vegetal bitterness at the back, to a finish that’s long and complex. Impressive!
White
2006 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc La Crau France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
90 points
Medium yellow, with a silver hue, and daybright. Nose of jasmine, hint of chamomile, popcorn, and greyish slate. Acids are mouthwatering on a medium body, with soil mineral driven flavours that’s being slatish, ripe yellow peach, salad leaves, some nail varnish, and a finish of medium length
White
2014 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
89 points
Pale yellow with silver hue, and starbright. Aromas of jasmine, hint of almond, somewhat leesy and bready, and medium ripe peach. Acids mouthwatering, with bright minerals as if spring water, candied lemons, raw dough, hint of cloves, but a finish that seemed somewhat straightforward

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
1979 Château Gloria France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Deep garnet, but exhibiting significant browning and fading on edges. An intense peppery and herb-led nose, some tart cherry, charcuterie, and cut grass. Acidic, whilst tannins completely resolved, and lean, whilst with strong flavours of pepper, cherry, rose, leather, charcuterie, roasted vegetables, leaf compost. Very complex finish, but of medium length at best, seems indicative of a wine over the hill, otherwise nice!
Red
2018 Domaine de l'Ecu Ange France, Vin de France
87 points
Medium ruby, that’s somewhat cloudy, and some edge fading. Aromas of very ripe yet tart cherry, rose, and barley. Acids bright, but flavours dominated by nuts, barley and wheat, and some bit of cherry. Largely very funky flavours and a short finish
Red
2016 Cayuse God Only Knows USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
88 points
Medium ruby with some brightness. Aromas of tea leaves, cherry, and smoke. Acids bright, whilst low in tannins and lean, with flavours of cherry, bread, and nuts, and a fairly short finish

Red
2017 Chapelle St. Theodoric Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Guigasse France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
92 points
Medium ruby, viscous, and bright. Aromas of purple florals, ripe cherry, pepper and grass. Mouthwatering acids and tannins that bite, with ripe cherry flavours, pepper, and a bit of rustic barnyard, and hint of nuts. A fair length, and fairly complex at the back
Red
2001 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
94 points
Medium ruby, and some brightness. Fairly intense nose with pink floral aromas, and strong cherry that come in waves, pepper, cloves, and a backdrop of peat. Mouthwatering acids, while tannins largely resolved, with flavours of pepper, cherry, cloves, some leather and mushroom, and dried autumn leaves. Long, very complex finish, and kept evolving as we drank. Great wine!
