Introduction

This was the dinner before the Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs Concert at The Fine Line. Unfortunately for me, it was a Monday night which leaves little opportunity to pre-game, let alone make the concert. Fortunately I was able to scooch in about two hours into the dinner and get a chance to enjoy a nice line up of wines from the gang before scooting off to the show. Five of us were in attendance with Davis joining for dinner but not going to the show (DM, CV, SS, LI, KB). Wines were all in nice shape and very enjoyable. The one wine I missed ( dang!) was the 2004 Taittinger Comte Champagne that was reportedly killer tonight. On a side note, the show was fantastic, with Mike Campbell showing charm, generosity and virtuosity all night long. in a 2 hour and 40 minutes show. What a great experience to share with friends.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2019 Dr. Loosen Graacher Domprobst Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
92 points
Light gold color. Open for for 2 hours, small pour. This has a bevy of impressive tropical fruits,; peach, guava, kiwi, and mango all come to mind, there's some body here too, a little youthful fleshiness but good acid and just a little sense of sweetness, slate minerality, lightly herbaceous and very good length. This will be fun to follow. 92 to 92+(+)pts.
White
2010 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
92 points
Light medium gold color. Open for a couple hours, drank a small pour over 20 minutes. Fairly classical Chablis; lemon, ocean, limestone on the nose. Lemon oil , beeswax, dry extract and distinct limestone minerality with a medium full bodied and plush palate. Really good, but lacks that extra gear you look for in Dauvissat and kind of surprising that there's not more vitality in the 2010.
Red
2008 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
Medium ruby color. This had been open for about 2 hours when I got a chance to try it. Drank a small pour over 45 minutes. The nose is pretty, open and filled with red cherry, dried earth and mineral notes mix with Asian spice. The palate is consistent with the red cherry, earth, spice, and minerality coming together with some vibrancy and finesse. Fairly tangy with good acidity, round tannins, and a smooth texture giving this a rather suave frame. Ready, but not as ready as one might expect either. This has got some legs and I expect it to improve a bit. 92+pts.
Red
2013 Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
92 points
Translucent medium garnet hued red color. This also had been open for about 2 hours ; drank a small glass over 45 minutes. What struck me here was the purity and lift to the ultra pretty ripe raspberry fruits. It stand out on the nose and palate. There's a nice amount of exotic spice in the upper register also. The whole package is medium bodied at most and quite elegant with that lovely red berry fruit standing out. There's more lurking underneath here too and the tannins are very fine, but certainly youthful and present. Lovely.
